An involved community member, Delmar served as a volunteer firefighter and constable for the Village of Stetsonville for many years. Delmar worked at Hurds in Medford for a short period of time and then at PCA in Colby for 36 years until his retirement in 1996. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed woodworking and cutting firewood.

He then worked for Herman Eggert’s Garage for about 30 years until full time retirement in 1994. After a couple of years of retirement in Birchwood, he and Viola moved to Dorchester. They returned to Medford in 2000. He moved to Country Gardens in 2007 and in 2009 he entered Memorial Nursing & Rehab Center. He enjoyed polka dancing, deer hunting, fishing and flower gardening.
