MARRIAGE: September 12, 1942 at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville Harriet married the love of her life, Arthur “Bud” C. Vircks and he preceded her in death on December 18, 1976

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: After her education, Harriet moved to Chicago, IL where she worked at a munitions factory during WWII. After their marriage they bought a farm west of Stetsonville where they farmed for 34 years. She moved to Abbotsford in 1990. Harriet worked at the Medford Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide for a number of years. She then worked at the Taylor County Human Services until her retirement in 1991. Harriet was a loving mother to 8 children and 5 foster children. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, baking, playing cards with her friends, whittling, telling stories, bird watching and she loved spending time with her family and friends.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from January 23, 1952 – December 24, 1953. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. John also enjoyed playing the concertina.

EDUCATION: Gertie attended schools where her father was a Lutheran Elementary School teacher in Freedom, then Kenosha and finally rural Fond du Lac. She attended Winnebago Lutheran Academy during her high school years.

MARRIAGE: May 27, 1933 to Wilbur J. Vetter and he preceded her in death on September 10, 1988

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: The couple farmed with Wilbur’s parents. Later they sold the farm and moved to Fond du Lac where Gertrude began a career at Sears in Management where she remained until her retirement. Much of Gertie’s life was devoted to family. In addition to working full time, she enjoyed sewing nearly all her own clothes and those of her family, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed cooking, especially for large family gatherings. After Wilbur’s retirement they traveled extensively, including four trips to Germany and five to Hawaii. She was also an extensive letter writer.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: He was a US Army veteran achieving the rank of Sergeant having served from May of 1946 to Nov. of 1947. After the military, he resided in Phillips and worked at Flambeau Milling for a period of time. In 1958 they moved to Ogema where he began his career with the US Postal Service for the next 30 years working as a clerk and later postmaster until his retirement in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, spending time with family and friends.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Richard served in the Wisconsin National Guard at Fort McCoy. After high school, he attended MATC’s Tool & Die Maker Program. He then worked at Wells Manufacturing Company in Fon du Lac. Richard then moved to Medford in 1981 and worked for Phillips Plastics as a tool, die and mold maker. He later became a project engineer for Fiskars in Wausau where he retired from in 2000. In his retirement, he did consulting work for several companies. Richard enjoyed golfing, sailing, canoeing, traveling, carpentry, history, the Green Bay Packers, and he loved spending time with his family.

RUSSELL F. WUDI

 


Russell Francis Wudi, 63, of Rib Lake, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 12.A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, June 20 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Rib Lake. Father Otto Bucher will officiate. Visitation will be held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 10 to 11:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Hemer Funeral Service of Medford and Rib Lake assisted with arrangements.
Russell was born on March 26, 1952 in Rib Lake, to the late Anton and Christina (Pagel) Wudi. He graduated from Rib Lake High School.
Russell was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated Ameriflex, which was based in Corona, Calif. He then went on to own Russ’s Coin Shop and the Rib Lake Bakery. Russell served in the United States Marine Corps as an electrician on the C-130 cargo aircraft. He had a passion for coins, and enjoyed exploring the history of Rib Lake. Russ was a true outdoorsman, especially enjoying fishing and hunting. He loved his family and grandchildren, and will always be remembered for his heart of gold. He was a member of the Rib Lake Financial Board.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Suzy) Wudi of Rib Lake, Nora (Matty) Howit of Lakewood, Calif., and Ellen (Paul) Mitnick of Mohnton, Penn.; brother, Wayne (Pat) Wudi of Chicago, Ill.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Memorial donations in honor of Russell may be made to the Rib Lake Historical Society.
