In 1950 they moved to the Medford area where they dairy farmed for 10 years, where he also did carpenter work for Medford Lumber Co. and was the maintenance man at Memorial Hospital. He worked at Our House as the maintenance man until his retirement. Reiny enjoyed fishing, playing cards, traveling, camping, and most of all attending school functions for his grandchildren.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: In his teen years Bernard worked as a logger and then entered the U.S. Army where he served from 1942-1945 in the European Theater. After he returned from his time in the service Bernard continued logging. He and Lillian also owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Grover. During this time he also drove pulp truck for Armin Buehler for a couple of years and worked for the Taylor County Highway Dept. for a time. In 1978, on their retirement from farming after 33 years, the Selbys built a home in the Town of Hammel where he currently resided. He also continued to be a logger until 1996 after which he enjoyed working for a number of years for the Forest Service Senior Employment Program. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher and dartball player. Bernard enjoyed cutting firewood, hunting, traveling, and reminiscing. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing and watching softball, where he was a past player for the Sawyer Dam Softball Team.

They then moved to the City of Medford where Norene worked at Weather Shield as the office manager and also for the purchasing department under Dale Steinke for 25 years until her retirement in 1981. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking, canning and traveling. Norene enjoyed bass fishing at her cabin on Richter’s Lake where the locals knew her as the “Bass Lady”.

After the service, he finished his education and entered the teaching profession as an Agriculture teacher first in Dorchester and then Medford for 38 years. He coached high school curling and had a couple of excellent teams who placed 1st at the state meet. He was president of the Taylor Co. youth fair for about 35 years. He was involved with Trees for Tomorrow, the Town & Country Breakfast, the livestock show & sale, and many activities with the FFA & FHA. Hugo had the utmost respect for the farming community and was proud to be part of it. He especially loved the farm visits and talking to the farm families. As busy as he was, he made time for his family, keeping Sundays as family day. Hugo was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, fishing, especially fly fishing, organizing activities and getting involved.

Alfred “Fuzzy” T. Kretschmer
Age 90
died Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 25, 2011, at the House of the Dove, under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice in Marshfield after his battle with cancer, former Medford Area resident.
Services will be 1PM, Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church, township of Goodrich with the Rev. Joseph Dietrich officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery following service.
Visitation will be Friday night, October 28, 2011 from 4 – 8 PM at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, and then at the church Saturday, October 29 from 11 AM to time of service.
He was born February 28, 1921 in Bern Township, Marathon County to the late Carl G. and Rose A. (Schmahl) Kretschmer. He attended Taylor County schools. On May 19th, 1951 he was married to Ida M. Schwark who preceded him in death on April 16, 1992.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Milwaukee where he worked for Case. After a short time there he returned to the family farm in the town of Bern, Marathon County. He farmed until 1973 while employed by Gad Cheese Factory and Harvey Millwork Company. After farming they owned and operated Fuzzy and Ida’s Tap and the Magnet in the Medford area until 1983. Upon “retirement” he worked as a security guard for Pinkerton Security. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church.
In his spare time, Fuzzy enjoyed playing all kinds of cards including, Sheepshead, Smear, Cribbage, Rummy, Guts and Solitare at many settings with family & friends. He also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
He is lovingly survived by two daughters, Mary (David) Wells of Allen, Texas and Linda (friend John Weber) Kretschmer of Marshfield; two sons, Darold (Nancy) of Wausau and Larry (Gail) of Athens; one sister, Edith Albrecht of Rochester, Minnesota He has 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Troller, Alma Dassow, and Elizabeth Simpson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Andrew Lutheran Church or the House of the Dove for the loving, compassionate & professional care provided to Alfred.

Chase loved life, loved people, loved Father Gerard and Deacon Joe, his family and his dog, Winnie. He was a very spiritual young man. He was a BIG packer fan, especially Brett Favre, enjoyed going bumming, riding 4-Wheeler, Hayrides, Tractor rides, camping, walking thru the leaves during the fall, the Harry Potter Series, going for bike rides with Grandma and Grandpa and parties. Chase enjoyed the water, especially swimming. He loved being able to swim with the Dolphins this last January in Florida thru the Make A Wish Foundation.

Chase loved life, loved people, loved Father Gerard and Deacon Joe, his family and his dog, Winnie. He was a very spiritual young man. He was a BIG packer fan, especially Brett Favre, enjoyed going bumming, riding 4-Wheeler, Hayrides, Tractor rides, camping, walking thru the leaves during the fall, the Harry Potter Series, going for bike rides with Grandma and Grandpa and parties. Chase enjoyed the water, especially swimming. He loved being able to swim with the Dolphins this last January in Florida thru the Make A Wish Foundation.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: After her education, while residing in Omaha, NE she worked overseeing a claims department for an insurer. In May of 1965 she moved to Medford and worked at Klinner Insurance and Hurd Millwork for periods of time. After the coming of children, she excelled in being a contented homemaker and farmers wife. Many years she made ready the home for Sunday morning fellowship meetings, giving each one a warm welcome, and a spiritual encouragement. She leaves beautiful hand stitched quilts, sewn garments and a host of pleasant memories. Granny Lyn will long be remembered with love.

Frank fought a courageous battle the last six weeks while he was a patient at Medford and Marshfield Hospital with his illness.

DATE & PLACE OF BIRTH: He was born February 26, 1928 to Anton J. Brost Jr. and Mary (Stauner) Brost in the Town of Medford. He was the fifth out of nine children.

MARRIAGE INFORMATION: In 1958 Frank met Ruth Devine of Marshfield, the love of his life. They married October 31, 1959 at Saint John’s Catholic Church, Marshfield. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 31, 2009 with a special mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford followed by a dinner and music with family friends gathering to share their day. They were blessed with 10 children: Mary Jo, Richard, Gerald, Russell, Lisa, Charles, John, Terry, Karen and Ronald.
PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Frank lived his entire life at the Family Farm, in which he helped operate until he was 82 year old and ill health required him to retire. Often friends would ask Frank when he was going to retire and he replied “I do every night when I go to bed.” After High School his youngest son Ronnie chose to take over the family farm. He passed on his passion for farming to his sons Dick, John, and Terry as well. They all work together. Karen farmed with Ron and Frank until she married. The grandchildren are also involved with the farm by doing chores. He entered the U.S. Army in Feb 1953. He was stationed at Fort Schilling, IL, Camp Carson, CO., And Fort Knox, KY. Frank was discharged in Feb. 1955 as Sergeant. In 2005 these Army buddies and their wives got together in Medford for their 50th Reunion. Individuals were LeRoy Brost, Kenny Emmerich, Bernie Schabel, Wayne Widner, Russ Dobersten, Norman Danen and Kenny Laggeman.
Frank also was a Log Truck, Milk Truck and Fuel Truck Driver. He also delivered mail for a short period of time.
In his younger years, he liked to Polka and always enjoyed listening to Polka Music. Frank enjoyed gardening, orchard and picking berries. He was an avid reader, especially the farm papers and magazines. Most of all Frank enjoyed family get togethers with his children and grandchildren. Frank had a special place in his heart for his daughter-in-laws: Deb, Jean and Casey. He also spent a lot of time with his son-in-law Jon. Frank also enjoyed going for rides and viewing the scenery, especially the farm scenery.
MEMBER OF: Life member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, where he also served on the Holy Rosary Cemetery Board. Frank served as Supervisor for the Town of Medford, Board Member for the Medford Coop, was an AMPI Delegate and the ASCS. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank was also named honorary member of the FFA.
