GARY L. WESTBERG


Gary L. Westberg, 74, Town Ogema, passed away at Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, under the care of Hope Hospice and surrounded by his loving family.
 
Cremation rites have been accorded and a Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema with Reverend Paul Oppedahl officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM. Burial of cremated remains along with military rites performed by the Prentice VFW, will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Ogema.

Gary was born on December 2, 1944 to Kermit and Florence (Nelson) Westberg. He attended Ring Elementary School, Town of Hill, and was a 1963 graduate of Prentice High School. Following High School, Gary joined the military and served in the Army from 1965 to 1967.  On June 22, 1968, he was united in marriage to Karen Berg at First Lutheran Church in Ogema.

After the service, Gary was employed by Prentice Hydraulics, Omark Industries, Prentice Franklin Sales and Service, V and H, Inc. of Prentice, where he retired as Forestry Parts Manager. In his free time, Gary found joy in putting together jigsaw puzzles, listening to his grandsons’ stories, caring for the lawn and house, and the occasional trip to the casino.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Karen, of Ogema, children - Kristin (David) Mabie of Kennan and Barbra Lutzke of Prentice, Grandsons - Jeffrey (Jessie Denny) Mabie, Trevor Lutzke, Nicholas Mabie, Kyle Lutzke, and Chase Mabie,  siblings - Betty (John “Bill”) Saari of Prentice and Marcia (Lonnie) Carlson, of Ogema.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Stanley and Ronald Westberg.

MARJORIE "MARGE" J. CRASS

Marjorie “Marge” J. Crass, 81, of Medford, passed away, surrounded by family, on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Dycora Transitional Health in Abbotsford.

Marge was born on March 20, 1938 in Tomahawk to LaJoyce and Helen (Surdick) DuPlayee. She was a graduate of Tomahawk High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Crass Jr. on November 10, 1956 in Tomahawk. Arthur preceded her in death on February 21, 2015. Together, Marjorie and Arthur owned and operated dairy farms in Tomahawk and rural Medford. After retirement Marjorie worked at Crass Sawmill.

In her spare time Marge enjoyed bowling in the Women’s League and spending time with her pets and family, especially her grandchildren.

Marge is survived by her five children, Linda Brandner, Allen (Cindy) Crass, Karen (Mike) Bennett, Daniel (Stacey) Crass, and David (Anna Wildeman) Crass; 12 grandchildren, Damon (Sherry) Brandner, Doug (Kristi) Brandner, Kyle (Alyssa) Brandner, Jeff (Tonya) Crass, Jackie Crass, Madelyn and Katelyn Bennet, Jake (Callie) Crass, Jordan (Jenn) Crass, Josh (Brenda) Crass, and Sam and Theo Crass and many great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Cecilia “Bubbles” Sann and many other family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marge is preceded in death by her brothers, John, Kenneth, Harmon, and William DuPlayee.

A memorial service for Marjorie will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Hemer Funeral Home – Medford Chapel, with Pastor David Clements officiating. Visitation will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Hemer Funeral Home from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers memorial donation in Marjorie’s name may be given to either the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Association or Hope Hospice.

Michael J. Lazzaro, Sr., ret. CPD, 97, lifelong resident of Chicago, passed away July 21, 2019. Beloved husband for 37 years of the late Evelyn; loving father of Michael Jr. (Helen), Charles (Randi) and Barbara (the late Jeff); cherished grandfather of Tricia Lazzaro (Matt Titsworth), Amanda (Derek) Brenner, David (Evelyn), Brian and Jeff (Emily) Lazzaro; dearest great grandfather of Madison, Evan, Nathan, Emily, Grace, Ryan and William; devoted son of the late Andre and Isabella; dearest sister of Katherine Huspek and preceded in death by seven other siblings; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. ROSEMARY E. RINDT

Rosemary E. Rindt, 95, of Westboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Pleasant View in Phillips.

Rosie was born in Milwaukee on November 28, 1923 to Arthur F. Roesch and Elion R. (McCullum) Roesch. Rosie’s family moved to Chicago when she was a young child, where she attended school and spent most of her childhood, with the exception of some years during the depression when she and her family lived in Westboro. She worked as a buyer for Charles A. Steven’s department store in Chicago, IL for several years before marrying Lee Rindt in 1962 and moving back to Westboro. Rosie worked at the Medford Hospital for 22 years as a CNA. She was Treasurer of Westboro for several years. Rosie was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Westboro until the church closed. She then became a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church of Rib Lake, where she was a volunteer for many years. Over the last few years, Rosie enjoyed the companionship of Harry Stroik who she married in 2015.

Rosie was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Rindt in 1969, by her father, Arthur F. Roesch in 1976, her mother Elion R. Roesch in 1986, her brother Arthur O. Roesch in 1994, and her sister-in-law Lois A. Roesch.

Rosie is survived by her husband, Harry, her nephew Arthur F. (Linda) Roesch and her niece, Barbra (Daniel) Gibson. She is also survived by Rindt sisters-in-laws and many Rindt nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Although Lee passed away many years ago, the Rindt family was always part of Rosie’s family. Rosie was well known and loved in Westboro and will be dearly missed.

A Funeral Mass for Rosemary will take place at 11:00 AM  on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive cemetery in Westboro. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

LAURENCE L. SMART

Laurence L. Smart, 69, of the Township of Greenwood, formerly of Wausau, passed away at home on Saturday, July 13, 2019.

Laurence was born on July 30, 1949 to Allen and Joyce (Wunsch-Normand) Smart in Wausau. He was a graduate of Wausau High School. He married Barbara Franz on February 5, 1997; she survives.

Laurence drove truck for 40 years.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATVing, being outdoors, and spending time with his son and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Laurence, is survived by his son, Justin Smart of Greenwood; grandchildren, Brody and Teagan, both of Greenwood; brother, Joe (Shellie) Normand III of Wausau; mother, Joyce Normand of Wausau; mother-in-law, Dorothy Franz of Medford; brother-in-law, Dan (Tammy) Franz of Medford; sister-in-law Gloria (Jim) Strebig of Rib Lake, and his three dogs, Luke, Brandy, and Chevy. Laurence is further survived by many other family and friends.

Laurence is preceded in death by his father, Allen and step-father, Joe Normand, Jr.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

NANCY S. WYCLIFFE

Nancy S. Wycliffe, 66, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in Lancing, MI.

She was born on October, 16, 1952 to Elmer and Goldie (Moore) Nuernberger in Medford. She graduated from Medford High School in 1970. She worked for Reckenthaler Electric, Timberline Transport, and most recently Weather Shield. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, birdwatching, and gardening.

Nancy is survived by her children Jennifer and Brian Wycliffe, both of Medford; siblings, Neal (Jean) Nuernberger, Paul (Linda) Nuernberger, Mary (Thomas) Brost, and Sara Nuernberger, all of Medford. She is further survived by brothers-in-law, Roger Paul and Paul Metz; sister-in-law Doris Nuernberger, and many nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by 3 siblings, Ellyn Paul, David Nuernberger, and Marjorie Metz, and 2 nephews, Eric and Daniel Nuernberger.

Funeral Services for Nancy will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Pastor Steve Rutter Officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. KRISTIN M. BRUNNER

Kristin M. Brunner, 71, of Marshfield, a former Medford area resident, passed away peacefully, surrounded by a loving family, on Monday, July 1 at her home in the Town of Richfield, Wood County.
Kristin was born on July 5, 1947 at Medford, WI to the late Arthur & Harriet (Berry) Vircks. She attended Stetsonville elementary schools, was a graduate of Medford High School and attended nurses college. Her marriage to John “Jack” Brunner took place on June 28, 1969 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville and they were later divorced.
Kristin worked in neuropsychology at the Marshfield Clinic for 9 years and later North Central Health Care in Wausau for 35 years until her retirement. She was a gifted singer and enjoyed music throughout her life. She also enjoyed cooking, puzzles, cards, quilting, crafts, word games, spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children – Amy (Gregory, Jr.) Gronski of Marshfield and Matthew (Kim) Brunner of Wausau, grand children – Nathan, Evan, Matthew, Ashton & Logan. Also survived by her siblings – Karleen Langer of Barrington, IL, Brian (Marti) Vircks of Colby, Kaye (Michael) Gerber of Sun Prairie, Boyd (Diane) Vircks of Colfax, Kari Draeger of Medford & Berle (Sylvia) Vircks of Cortland, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother – Barton Vircks, brothers in law – Michael Langer & Harvey Draeger, Jr.
Memorial services for Kristin will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, July 20 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel with Rev. Wes Jedras officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of services at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Stetsonville following services.
