KATHERINE DASSOW


Katherine Dassow, 93, of Medford, passed away on June 27, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Katherine was born on October 27, 1925 to Carl and Susan (Kokotech) Hildebrand in Westboro. She married Lawrence Dassow on May 31, 1947 in Whittlesey; he proceeded her in death on February 8, 1998.

Katherine was a homemaker and mother on the family farm, in the Town of Medford. She and Lawrence both retired in 1987. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, flowers, playing cards, fishing, traveling with her family, and baking.

Katherine is survived by her children, Sally (Monty) Strassberger, Tommy (Kathy) Dassow, Patty Gengler, Cindy (Allen) Crass, all of Medford, and Fay (Damon) Harder of Mosinee; daughter-in-law Gail Dassow; sons-in-law, Gene Noland and Bruce Krug; sister-in-law Marjorie Jensen. She is further survived numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her children, Nancy Noland, Suzy Krug, Jerome Dassow, and Dale Dassow; son-in-law Tom Gengler; sister, Alma Rehbein, and brother, Alfred Hildebrand.

Funeral Services for Katherine will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Whittlesey, with Pastor Gary Lodholtz officiating. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

She continued to work there for a period of years until retirement. She was the kitchen chairman for the Medford VFW Club. Was active with the Sunny Hills Homemakers and made soup for the kids during the early years of the Medford Area Youth Hockey Association. She enjoyed basket weaving, rosemaling, camping, fishing, crafting and cooking.

Marie A. Krolnik, beloved mother, 85, of Rib Lake, passed away on Wednesday June, 19, 2019 at Rib Lake Health Care Services.

Marie was born on July 28, 1933 to Meinard and Emma (Heisler) Kathrein in Rib Lake. She married Max Krolnik on July 3, 1955 at St. John the Evangelist in Milwaukee.

Marie is survived by 3 children, Paul (Kathryn) Krolnik of Kewaskum, Gary (Denise) Krolnik of Oregon, WI, and Sarah Dykstra of San Jose, CA; 9 grandchildren, Jay, Carl (Sheena) , Joyce and Christopher, Ursa , Max and Melody. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Trinity, Onica, and Matthew Marie and Albert. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph (Linda) Kathrein of Rib Lake. Marie is further survived by many other family and friends.

Marie is preceded in death by her husband, Max on November 27, 2008, parents, and one brother in infancy.

Cremation Rites have been accorded and services will be held at later date.

ROY G. JASLOWSKI


Roy George Jaslowski, 93, of Medford passed away on June 21 at Our House of Medford where he had been a resident since May of 2017. 
His funeral service will be on Tuesday, June 25 at 11:00 am at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Holway with Pastor Amy Heinz officiating.  Burial will follow at the Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Naomi Jaslowski, Christopher Brost, Kurt Staab, Brett Weber, Mel Schmucker and Bob Lange.  Visitation will be at Our Saviour’s from 10:00 am until time of the service. Military Honors will be rendered by the Medford Area Military Rites Team.

Roy was fondly known as the “Candy Man.”  When most people were thinking about retirement, Roy went to work pumping gas in Medford where he gave thousands of Werther’s Original candies to patrons and their children.   

Roy was born September 4, 1925 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Bernice Jaslowski.  When he was 3 years old the family moved to Medford where his father ran a one-pump gas station and farmed west of Medford on Highway 64.   Roy attended grade school and his first two years of high school in Medford before the family moved back to Chicago. Roy’s mother was in ill health and wanted to be closer to her family in Chicago.  Roy graduated from Crane Technical Highschool, Chicago, before being drafted in the Navy.   After serving in the Navy during WWII, he returned to Chicago and worked at Western Electric as a draftsman for six years before returning to Medford where he met and married Mabel Christophersen.

Roy bought the farm his wife grew up on in the town of Hammel. Together they farmed until her death in 1971 of cancer.  They had four children:  Frank, Carol (Lekies), Peter and Mary (Dall).  In his spare time, he enjoyed fly fishing.

In addition to farming, Roy served on the board of directors for the Medford Cooperative, Taylor Electric Cooperative, The Dairyland Power Board, ASCS, and Our Saviour’s Church Council. In 2009    Roy received the employee excellence award from the Medford Area Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his wife Mabel, his sister Annette, and daughter Mary. He is survived by his children, Frank, Carol (Gordon) Lekies, and Peter.  Surviving grandchildren include Joshua Jaslowski, Dr. Angela Brost D.D.S., Christopher Brost, Amy Brost and 8 great grandchildren.

In leu of flowers at Roy’s request, memorials should designated to either Our Saviour’s Lutheran Chruch of Holway or Hope Hospice in his name.

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: Tom spent the majority of his career working at the Medford Cooperative grocery store. He served in the Army during the Berlin Crisis, when the Berlin Wall was erected. He was stationed in Alabama as a member of the Army Chemical Corp starting on January 6, 1961 and was discharged December 20, 1962. He left two months after the Cuban Missile Crisis and served in the 84th Reserve in Wausau. He was also on member of the Medford National Guard for 4 years. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Minute Man statue, and a plaque for Outstanding Support of the Wisconsin National Guard. Tom volunteered in numerous capacities at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and School for many years. He enjoyed reading and doing word puzzles.

PAUL ROY GRISWOLD

His greatest gifts were showing love and encouragement to everyone he came in contact with. He loved being together with his family and friends. Second only to his lifelong commitment to the Lord Jesus was his total devotion to loving his family well. His life was most fulfilled through his holy calling as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger and has helped countless people find their way to Christ. His light here on earth will be so missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelvie, his parents: Oren and Addie Elizabeth Griswold, brothers, Warren and Lyman, sisters, Margie and Celia, and daughter-in-law Donna (Steven) Griswold.
Survivors include: two sons, Steven (Samantha) Griswold of Mooresburg, TN, and Daniel (Debbie) Griswold of Kingsport, TN; five grandchildren, Amy (Jacob) Brecheisen of Wisconsin, Steven Jr. (Kassadee) Griswold of Chandler, AZ, Jenna and Jacob Griswold of Kingsport, TN, and Violet of Mooresburg, TN. ERVIN R. ULRICH, Sr.

Ervin "Erv" R. Ulrich, Sr., 41, of Medford, died Thursday June 13, 2019 at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday June 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Wipf officiating. Burial will follow at The Chelsea Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 PM, Monday Night June 17, 2019 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel and will continue at First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service Pallbearers are Ervin Ulrich, Jr, Tim Ulrich, Matt Ulrich, Lon Ulrich, Lee Schlais, Tracy Shook, Charles Radtke.
Erv was born May 18, 1978 in Madison, WI to Rodger and Eileen (Niggemann) Ulrich. He is a 1996 Graduate of Medford Sr. High, and earned several Associates Degrees. He married Laura Schlais on December 4, 2004 in Medford. Laura survives.
He is further survived by his Children: Desirae Schlais of Medford, EmmaRae Schlais of Wausau, Ervin Jr., Lily and Isaac all of Medford, Parents: Rodger and Eileen Ulrich of Medford, Siblings: Lon (Cindy) Ulrich of Medford, Tim (Cathy) Ulrich of Racine, Lisa (Charles) Radtke, Karen (Tracy) Shook and Matt (Cassy) Ulrich all of Medford, In Laws: Leonard (Pat) Schlais of Medford and Karen Schlais of Athens, Brother in Law: Lee (Jessica) Schlais of Eau Claire, Sister in Law: Linda Whittenberger of Athens, many nieces and nephews, and will be missed by many friends.
Erv is preceded in death by his Grandparents, and beloved Beagle "Boomer."
Erv worked as a machinist, using his talents for many businesses throughout North Central Wisconsin. He was most currently working for Jarp Industries in Wausau.
He enjoyed all things outdoors, especially camping, hunting, fishing, and 4 wheeling. He could fix anything, and always had a project going on. He attended First Baptist Church in Medford.
Erv will be remembered as a hardworking man that loved his family and cherished his time spent with them.

He later became director of building services at Memorial Hospital of Taylor County, Medford where he worked for 15 years until his early retirement due to multiple sclerosis. He was a city council member for 7 years and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford where he served on the finance council. Leo was a kind and gentle man, respected and loved by everyone who knew him. His positive attitude was an inspiration to all.

David L. Gutowski, 71, of Westboro, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at home.

David was born on February 22, 1948 to John Sr. and Luvena (Gullet) Gutowski. He married Susan Blish on August 19, 1978.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and sitting by the lake with a beer in his hand.

David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan; children, Kimberly Gutowski of Medford, Stephanie (Dan Fehling) Gutowski of Albany, and Chad Gutowski of Racine; grandchildren Karen (Adam Erbs) Colson (Little Miss America) and Johnathan “JD” Hoverson; sisters, Maryanne (Steve) Thompson and Joy Berber; sisters-in-law, Dianne (Harold) Fliehs and Sharon Gutowski; niece, Laurie (Doug Rabitoy) Miller. David is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other family and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Gutowski; niece, Maryanne Hilbert.

SHIRLEY J. MILLER


Shirley Miller, 77, of Medford, passed away on Wednesday June, 5, 2019 at home, under the care of Hope Hospice.

Shirley was born on April 30, 1942 to Norman and Eleanor Holtz in Medford. She attended Mathey grade school and graduated from Medford High in 1960.

She married William Miller in 1962, then moved to Merrill for a short time, where she was employed at Pine Crest Nursing Home. They then moved to Beloit, where she was employed at Caravilla Nursing Home and at Admiral  Corp in Harvard, IL. She also did child care for friends. In the early 70’s they moved to Pocatello, ID. They moved back due to family illness after almost four years and settled in the Washburn, Ashland area for 27 years. She did child care for friends and also worked at Americ Inn for 8 and a half years. They retired and moved back to Medford in June 2004.

She enjoyed golf, bowling, camping, fishing, riding bike, and rode snowmobiles for years and also enjoyed the outdoors.

 

Shirley is survived by 3 brothers, Gerald (Marlene) Holtz of Rib Lake, Larry Holtz of Medford, and Jim (Diane) Holtz of Trumbauersville; 2 sisters, Carol Zahnen and Bev (Mike) Peterson of Medford.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on July 25, 2008, her parents, sisters-in-law, Madeline Holtz and Judy Holtz

Cremation rites have been accorded and per Shirley’s request no services will be held.

RALPH "DAVID" SCHWARTZ


Ralph “David” Schwartz, 69, of Medford, passed away on June 4, 2019 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with his loving wife Mary and children by his side.

He was born September 7, 1949 to Ralph and Mary (Delaney) Schwartz in Placerville, CA. Married Mary Hrobsky on June 29, 1979. He drove truck for McKay Nursery and Duckert Pallet in Waterloo. He moved north to Medford in 1992 and drove truck for Weather Shield until health forced his retirement in 2007.

David brought joy to everybody who knew him, especially his family. He had a love of hunting, fishing, and helping with hunter safety. He enjoyed trapshooting, earning many trophies, fishing in Canada, and salmon fishing in Lake Michigan. Above all else he had a great love for his family.

David is survived by Mary, his wife of 40 years; daughters, Tammy (Steve) Belanger, Theresa (Doug) Ulam, and Dawn Joles; son, James (Patty) Grueneberg; grandchildren, Nick, Chris, Brittany, Justin, Matt, Samantha, Ann-Mari, Trinity, and great grand-grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother, Fred (Peggy) Schwartz and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Jerry Joles.

A memorial visitation for David will take place on June 8, 2019 at Hemer Funeral Home – Medford Chapel from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.

John H. Rosenfeldt, 72, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Rib Lake, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Northwest Pathways where he had resided for the past 10 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers will be: Brian Kathrein, Jody Neubauer, Tara Rose, Brenda Fallos, Diane Seng, Jim Seng, and Jason Wanek.

John was born November 21, 1946 in Marshfield to Southwell and Lucile (Lehman) Rosenfeldt. John attended Ward Elementary School in Rib Lake. He worked at the Medford Achievement Center and then later at Black River Industries in Medford. He enjoyed listening to music, especially polka, collecting shoe-shoes (shoelaces), eating hot dogs, beans, and onions. John was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

John is survived by his siblings: Malinda (Joseph) Kathrein of Rib Lake, Joan Wanek of Charleston, IL, and James (Cheryl) Rosenfeldt of Rib Lake. John is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

John is proceeded in death by his Father, Southwell, Mother, Lucile, Brother-In-Law, Don Wanek, and Nephew, David Kathrein.
