THERESIA FABER

Theresia Faber, 96, of Medford, passed away Saturday October 27, 2018 at Dycora Transitional Health in Abbotsford, under the compassionate care of Hope Hospice.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday October 30, 2018 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Goodrich. Pastor Ken Bittorf will officiate. Burial will follow at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
Theresia was born March 22, 1922 in Forst, Germany to John and Joanna (Schmuda) Rau. She married Peter Faber on February 3, 1940 in Medford. Pete preceded her in death on May 17, 2008.
She is survived by two Daughters: Jean Thurs of Athens, Virginia (Alan) Woller of Merrill, two Sons: Henry (Jackie) of Athens and Edward (Phyllis) of Medford, 8 Grandchildren, 6 Step Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren, 7 Step Great Grandchildren, 9 Great Great Grandchildren, 4 Step Great Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Theresia is further preceded in death by her Parents, Son In Law Ronald Thurs, Grandson Steven Faber, Brothers: John, Henry and Joseph Rau, Sisters: Hedwig Lechmaier, Agnes Rau and Anne Utter.
Theresia will always be remembered as a hard worker. Her and her husband Peter owned and operated a own dairy farm in the Town of Goodrich. She enjoyed gardening, canning, hunting, crochet, needlework, sewing, traveling and riding snowmobile. She especially enjoyed time spent at the cabin her and Peter built on Lake Minocqua.
She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church where she served in the Ladies Aid, Farmers Union, Holstein Breeders Assn. and the Farmers Union Co-Op.

GLADYS E. PAUR


Gladys E. Paur, 92, a former Town of Browning resident, passed away on Saturday, Oct 27, 2018, at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford, where she had resided for almost 3 years most recently under the care of Hope Hospice. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 30 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, with Rev Richard Russow officiating. Visitation will take place from 4-7 PM on Monday, October 29 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, and also at church from 10 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 30. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Medford. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Tyler & Brayden Paur, Adam Smith, Josh, Connor & Zach Wierschke.
Gladys was born March 24, 1926, one of 9 children of William and Bertha (Richwalski) Brecke in the Township of Deer Creek near Stetsonville, WI. Gladys attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School in the Town of Deer Creek, and was a 1943 graduate of Dorchester High School. She attended a secretarial school in Madison, Wisconsin for 6 months. She returned to the Medford area and was employed at the County Superintendent of Schools office. After the death of her Mother in 1945, Gladys took a leave of absence to be at home to help with housekeeping and the care of her younger siblings. She returned to her job after several months. On June 12, 1948, Gladys married Emil C. Paur at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville and he preceded her in death on Nov 5, 2015.
Together they raised six children on the Paur dairy farm near Gad in the Town of Browning. Gladys enjoyed gardening, quilting and was an excellent seamstress. She was a lifetime member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, along with its Ladies Aid. She was active in Sunny Hill Homemakers group of Gad and assisted with the Gad Go Getters 4-H Club. She also was a Town of Browning poll worker at many elections.
Gladys is survived by her children Starla (Jerry) Siegmann of Milwaukee, Bryan (Carol) Paur of Menomonie, WI, Mitchell Paur of Medford, Jill (David) Smith of Medford, Leslie (Carol) Paur, Delavan, WI, and Cynthia (Mark) Wierschke of West Salem, WI. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and sisters Annabelle Holme of New Berlin, Elva (Norman) Larson of Waupaca, WI, and sisters-in-law Sharon Brecke of Owen, WI and Helen Hirsch of Delavan, WI.
In addition to her husband and parents, Gladys was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Vernon Brecke, Myron Brecke, Audrey Vircks, Stella Brecke, Myrtle Bedroske, and Mary Ann Brecke (in infancy).

GERALD R. ZIEHLKE


Gerald Ray Ziehlke (Jerry), Age 89, of Medford, passed away at his home in Medford on Sunday October 14, 2018 under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

 Jerry was born on August 3, 1929 in Little Black Wisconsin to Henry Sr. and Elida (Eckdahl) Ziehlke.  Jerry went to a one room school through eighth grade.  At age 11 he worked out west in the wheat fields.  He also worked on his parent’s farm as a child.  Jerry graduated from high school at age sixteen.  He again went out west to begin his career as a Lineman.  At age 18, Jerry married the love of his life Bernadine (Bernie) Brede on August 3, 1947.  Together they had two daughters.  Jerry and Bernie worked together and had many accomplishments.  Jerry worked full-time for the Medford Electric Utility until he retired.  During those working years, they also raised mink, had a stump removal business, owned a Montgomery Ward’s Catalog Store and in later years Ziehlke’s Furniture.  He was also a self-taught carpenter and built 6 homes.  In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt, camp and travel.  Jerry was a wonderful storyteller with a great sense of humor.

 Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bernie in 2015.  They were married 68 years and Jerry missed her every day.  Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henry Jr. and Roy. 

Left to honor Jerry and remember his love are Jerry and Bernie’s two daughters, Carol (Tom) Ploeckelman, Terrie Revels (Wayne), four grandchildren Jenna (Mike) Heinz, Ron (Tracy) Ploeckelman, Matthew Czerniak and Rachel Revels.  Four Great Grandsons, Jacob and Mitchel Heinz and Adam and Andrew Ploeckelman and by his sister Sharon Frank.  Also, many in-laws, nieces and nephews. 

Jerry and his family would like to extend a very grateful thank you to the wonderful team of Caregivers who lovingly cared for Jerry and Bernie for over five years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 27, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 321 N. Park Avenue in Medford.  Jerry’s family will greet friends and family at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Black.

EDWIN "EDDIE" E. EMSTROM, JR.

Edwin “Eddie” E. Emstrom, Jr., 83, of Perkinstown, passed away on October 8, 2018 at Aspirus Hospital Medford.

Eddie was born on March 14, 1935 to Edwin Sr. and Pearl (Andrews) Emstrom in Perkinstown . He attended Hannibal and Perkinstown schools. He farmed on the family homestead throughout his childhood. After high school he joined the Army and served in Korea from 1958 – 1960 as a tank driver. He then joined the reserves for 6 years. After his military service he worked at the American Motors Company in Milwaukee for 1 year. He then moved back to the homestead, where he took care of his parents and started working at Hurd Windows and Doors. He worked at Hurd for 3 years before joining the Taylor County Highway Department in 1970. He worked at the Highway department for 26 years until his retirement in 1996.

In his spare time he enjoyed farming, especially chickens, playing bingo, attending community events, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Eddie is survived by his sisters, Elin Sanders of Abbotsford, Ella Fischer of Medford; nephews, Fred (Kelly) Emstrom of Medford, Teddy (Dawn) Fischer of Port Washington, and Ned (Janet) Fischer of Chippewa Falls; niece, Nancy (Bill) Sarring of Port Washington; step-niece Connie (Ray) Griesbach of Rhinelander,; step-nephew Jan (Barb) Armstrong of Medford. Eddie is further survived by many other family and friends.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Fred (Clara) Emstrom; brothers-in-law Ted Fischer and Robert Sanders; nephews, Robbie Sanders, Andy Fischer, and Jeff Armstrong.

Funeral Services for Eddie will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Hemer Funeral Home – Medford Chapel, with Pastor Nancy Amacher officiating. Burial will follow at Perkinstown Community Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Hemer Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM.

LeRoy E. Tlusty



 


 

LeRoy E. Tlusty, 83, of Madison, a former town of Chelsea resident, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, surrounded by his children at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, where he had been a patient for the past week. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 at OLPH Catholic Church, W5409 Whittlesey Ave., Medford with Father Phil Juza officiating. Visitation will take place at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, where there will be a 7 p.m. Catholic rosary service held that evening. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church in Whittlesey from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place at OLPH Catholic Cemetery in the township of Chelsea. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Tristan Douglas, LeRoy Tlusty, Joshua and Myles Oliver and Heather and Cameron Heiser.


LeRoy was born on June 11, 1935 in Rib Lake to Elizabeth M. (Pinsch) and Ernest P. Tlusty. He attended the town of Chelsea elementary schools and was a graduate of Medford High School. He married Katherine J. Spieles in Chelsea and they were later divorced. He married Barbara Helmbrecht and they were later divorced. After his education he worked the pipeline while residing in various locations across the country. For 20 years he worked maintenance at JCPenney’s, followed by similar roles at Harlan Sprague Dawley and the UW Hospital before his retirement. After retirement he resided in both the Portage and Madison areas. He enjoyed flower gardening, feeding the birds, fishing, hunting, bingo and puzzles.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Sandy (Sean) Heiser of Edgerton, Shirley (Paul Talboom) Oliver of Watertown, Jeff Tlusty of Madison and Sherry (Brad) Douglas of Portage; 10 grandchildren, Joshua, Kymm, Myles, Heather, Jasmine, Cameron, Tristan, Robert, LeRoy and Brandy; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and step-father, Theodore Molitor, LeRoy was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Annette Tlusty; grandchildren, Trevor and Lucas (in infancy); and a sister, Elizabeth Tlusty in infancy

MELVIN J. ZENNER

Melvin J. Zenner, 90, of Medford, Town of Hammel resident, passed away Sunday October 7, 2018 at the Aspirus Medford Hospital.  Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial mass will take place at 11:00 AM, Thursday October 11, 2018 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford with Father Phil Juza officiating.  Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held that morning at church from 9:30 AM until the time of mass at 11:00.  Urnbearers will be MJ, Alex and Ben Zenner.Melvin was born March 11, 1928 at his family farmstead home in the Town of Hammel to Joseph and Laura (Federspeil) Zenner.  He attended the Town of Cleveland Schools.  On August 16, 1949, Melvin married Geraldine M. Kalmon, who survives, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  They enjoyed 69 years of life together.
Melvin owned and operated his dairy farm in the Town of Hammel for his entire life.  He had a passion for mechanics and machinery and was a collector of John Deere 2 cylinder tractors.  He enjoyed traveling to Montana to visit family and helping with their wheat farms.  He liked running their farm machinery, as it was bigger than his equipment.  He loved listening to polka music, and socializing, especially over a game of cards.  Melvin spent a lot of time with his grandsons and enjoyed watching them grow up.  He was passionate about teaching his boys about farming, and instilling in them traits like perseverance, hard work and the love of family.  Most recently, you could find him sitting on a stool in the garage, or riding in a car with his boys, all while giving them words of wisdom as they began their own custom agriculture adventures.
Melvin was the father of Joseph (Renee) Zenner of Medford.  He was the proud and loving grandfather to Melvin “MJ” (Brittany) Zenner, Alex (Katie) Zenner both of Medford, Benjamin Zenner of Wausau, and granddaughter Joelle Zenner of Medford.  Melvin loved his great-grandsons, Mason and Garrett Zenner and looked forward to their visits at the farm.  Melvin was very close to his niece, JoAnne (Delmar) Smith of Medford.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Leona Hadderman.
Melvin was of the Catholic faith, and a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

MERCEDES L KAPFHAMER


Mercedes Lucille (Goessl) Kapfhamer left this world on Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 with her loving family by her side. She was born on August 26th, 1924, in Curtiss WI to Theresa (Decker) and Irving Goessl at home. As infants, she and her twin sister, Marcella, were kept warm in shoeboxes placed on the open oven door. Mercedes attended St. Louis Catholic School in Dorchester. She was united in marriage to John Kapfhamer on September 5, 1945, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford, with the reception taking place in the same home she was born in.  She and John farmed for many years—first on a farm west of Medford, and then in 1948 they moved to a farm east of Stetsonville where they resided until they moved into the village of Stetsonville in 1987. John passed away in 2011, after 65 wonderful years of marriage. She continued residing in Stetsonville until earlier this year, when she moved to Abbotsford. In addition to farming with her husband, John, she pelted minks, worked at the Church and the Centennial Hall, cared for children, belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters, sewed many beautiful quilts which she gave as wedding gifts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also knitted hats for newborns, made bibs and small quilts for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren as they were born. Mercedes’s love for sewing and knitting was strong, and she put it to great use making hats and small quilts for the preemies and newborns born at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. She also helped many friends get to and from their appointments. In her free time, she enjoyed the Sr. Citizen lunches with her friends at the Centennial Hall, playing cards, especially Phase 10 (but without the SKIP cards), along with many other card games, and puzzles.
She is survived by her children; Carol Cypher of Fairborn, OH, Jean (Alan) Bushman of Greenwood, Linda Holland of Madison, Kevin (Karla) Kapfhamer of Sun City, AZ, Tim (Yvonne) Kapfhamer of Colby, Brenda (Jim) Duhaime of Schofield, 21 Grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren with another one on the way, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, her sister, Sister Celine Goessl of De Pere, and sister-in-laws; Peggy Goessl of Abbotsford, Roberta Kapfhamer of Medford, and Leona (Jack) Steinmetz of Slinger.
In addition to her husband, John, she was predeceased by her sisters Marcella Deeter, Ethel Gutenberger, Patricia Kuranda and her brothers Clarence, Orlando, Herbert, Theodore, and Peter Goessl, her son-in-law David Cypher along with many other family and friends.
A memorial mass will take place at 12:00 Noon on Sunday October 7, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. Father Michael Hayden will officiate. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass at church from  10:30 AM until the time of Mass at 12:00 PM. Kraig Kapfhamer will serve as Urnbearer.

The family would like to thank those who helped by taking her to appointments, senior citizen center, picking up her medicine, groceries, visiting and helping her at home, or just taking her for a ride. We would like to especially thank Netty and Father Mike for the tender-loving care they showed Mom in her last months, along with all who helped Mom in any way. They would also like to thank Dycora and Hope Hospice for the loving care she received. And all of those who helped and visited her while still at home, and while at Dycora.

JOYCE BALCIAR



Joyce Balciar, 75, of Medford, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Colonial Care Center in Colby.

She was born on February 24, 1943 to Josie and Dora (Greer) Rochester. She attended Gilman area school. She married Carl Balciar on June 24, 1967; he preceded her in death in 2003. She worked most of her life as a homemaker, but spent a few years as a CNA at the Taylor County Memorial Healthcare Center.

In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, cats and dogs, nature, watching birds, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Steve (Maranda) Balciar and Joe (Sheryl) Balciar, both of Medford, and Josh (Morgan) Balciar of Hudson; grandchildren, Cassidy, Brayden, Jackson, Kaelynn, and Samantha Balciar; sister, Joleen Boss. She is further survived by many other family and friends.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Hemer Funeral Home – Medford Chapel with Pastor Nancy Amacher officiating. During his earlier working years he always did side jobs as a mechanic or painter to help people out. For the past 11 years,
he fulfilled his dream being a full-time self employed mechanic/truck driver for Rodney Strobach Trucking in Rib Lake. He
enjoyed helping people, dirt, mud, grease, problem solving, snowmobiling, boating, car racing, hunting & riding his
motorcycle. He considered rules recommendations of what people shouldn’t do. Many considered Rodney to be a father
figure, brother, mentor & best friend.
