EDMUND "LES" S. HOMMEL
Edmund S. “Les” Hommel, 94, of Rapid City, SD died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Westhills Village Health Care in Rapid City. Edmund Sylvester “Les” Hommel was born on March 30, 1917 in Thompson, IA to Roman and Clara (Leininger) Hommel. Les moved to the Medford, WI area with his parents in 1920. In 1934 he made the move to South Dakota and stayed with an aunt and uncle until August 1936 when he moved to St Francis, SD to work at the Indian mission as a 5th & 6th grade teacher. When the opportunity arose he was able to move into the office as a bookkeeper and later as an accountant. He retired in 1990 and made the complete move to Rapid City in 1994. He was a member of Cathedral of Our lady of Perpetual Help and enjoyed reading and traveling.
He is survived by 2 nephews, Dean Hommel and Mark Hommel, both of Medford, WI, 1 niece Mary Tishim of Marshfield, WI, and 1 sister in law, Ella Hommel of Medford, WI.
Visitation will be begin at 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in the Ladies Chapel at Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help with a Christian Wake service and Rosary at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian of Burial will be on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 1:00 pm in the Ladies Chapel at the Cathedral with Fr. Ed Vanorny as celebrant. A visitation will also be held on Monday, January 30, 2012 from 9 am to 11 am at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, WI with interment to follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery at 11:30 am with Deacon Joseph Stefancin presiding.

Roland was also an inventor and has numerous patents. They then moved to the Town of Medford where they operated a Sugarbush. Roland was an avid hunter and fisherman. MARRIAGE INFORMATION: June 1, 1943 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester to Amelia M. Schmid and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2007.
PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: As a young man, Roland worked on the family dairy farm and also worked as an electrician with his father. Upon marriage, Roland and Amelia purchased the Schneider Homestead where they operated the dairy farm, which then became a mink ranch until retirement in 1967. Roland was also an inventor and has numerous patents. They then moved to the Town of Medford where they operated a Sugarbush. Roland was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Presently she was working as a medical assistant for the Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield. She was also a 1st responder for the Marshfield Clinic. She enjoyed playing cards, gambling, gardening, and her grandchildren.
