His passion for sports continued into adulthood. Dean enjoyed coaching his sons and other youth; he received the Marshfield Youth Baseball Coach of the Year Award. Dean often cheered on the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. He enjoyed sailing at the Apostle Islands and was an avid downhill skier and outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing. He continued to serve on the board of directors until 1995. He enjoyed traveling, polka & big band music, being in the outdoors & reading.

After their marriage, the Hamanns farmed in the Town of Medford from 1946-1977 when they sold all but four acres of their farm on which they built a new home. Dorothy worked for Black Bear Inn and in the bakery at Holiday Village, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed bowling, crafts, quilting, crocheting, gardening and shopping.
