Over the years, Melvin drove semi-trucks, gravel trucks, cattle trucks, tractors (Big & Small) and other large equipment until ill health forced his retirement in 2005. After retirement he helped his sons with their field work. He enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, ice fishing, reading the paper, watching television and getting together with family. Melvin enjoyed going for Sunday rides and to take trips with Sylvia. His favorite was driving through Yellowstone and the beautiful scenery. He also liked visiting relatives in other states.
