MARRIAGE: On June 25, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, Chester married the love of his life Bernadine Scheithauer and she preceded him in death on October 16, 2012
PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: After school Chester worked for his father at Brahmer & Earl Concrete Co. for 5 years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1943 until 1946, where he achieved the rank of Corporal and received a good conduct medal and marksman. After his service, Chester returned to the Rib Lake area and worked at Hurd Windows Mfg. in Medford from 1946 to 1954. He then opened Chet & Bernie’s Tavern in the Town of Greenwood, and operated it for 55 years until his retirement in 2008. Chet played baseball for various leagues and played softball for Hurds. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, staying at the cabin at the lake, playing cribbage and cards, ice fishing, tending bar and serving his customers and community. Chet also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
MEMBER OF: OLPH Catholic Church, Whittlesey; Past member of Taylor County Tavern League, Interwald Wanderers Snowmobile Club, Taylor County Sportsman’s and was a lifetime member of the Medford V.F.W.

In 1977 she retired and moved back to her family homestead in Ogema. She enjoyed playing the Hand & Foot card game, eating chocolates, baking, being with her family, sewing, especially the raffle quilt for the Christmas Tree Festival and hosting the family reunion during the Christmas Tree Festival.

ALFRED D. "AL" PALMER
Alfred Donald Palmer, son of John and Gertrude Palmer was born December 15, 1927.
Al attended Grade School in Polley, Wisconsin, and High School in Gilman Wisconsin.
Al served in WWII 24th Division in the Army as a Military Policeman from 1946-1947.
He returned to his home in Gilman Wisconsin where he had a mail route. He owned a
trailer court for several years. Al became the Sheriff for Taylor County from 1973-1987.
He proudly put his badge on for 14 years. While he was Sherriff, he oversaw the addition of the new jail to the courthouse. He loved to talk about his career as Sheriff
Palmer right up to the end. AI was just an ordinary person facing extraordinary
circumstances and acting with courage, pride, honor and self sacrifice.
Al and Kathy Palmer were married July 24, 1954 they resided in Wisconsin for 59 years.
They both enjoyed traveling to Hot Springs, Arkansas for 20 years during the winter
months. Al enjoyed golfing, watching the Green Bay Packers, coming to Minnesota to
visit his family, the MN State Fair, and going to Gilman to see friends. He liked to go to
the Memorial Hospital cafeteria for mashed potatoes and gravy. He liked to ride his
scooter around town. Go for coffee or lunch with friends in Medford. Al was a member
of the Medford American Legion.
Al Palmer passed away April 8, 2016at Deerview Meadows Assistant Living in Medford
Wisconsin. Al was preceded in death by his parents John and Gertrude (Shookman)
Palmer, two brothers John Palmer and Franklin Palmer, a sister Lois (Tallman) Palmer,
wife Kathleen Palmer, brother-in-law Glen Tallman, niece Patti (Tallman) Nelson.
Al will be deeply missed by his niece Peggy (Tallman) Peterson, husband Phil Peterson,
Ernie Nelson of Isanti, Minnesota. Great Nieces and nephews
Jeremy (Jennifer) Nelson, Bryan (Jacqueline) Nelson, Amy Nelson, Lyndsie Peterson,
Caitlyn (Andy) Jorgenson. Great Great niece and nephews Cody Nelson, Owen Nelson,
Kayla Nelson, close friends Jim (Betsy) Gorichs of Medford, and many friends and neighbors.
A memorial service and military honors for Al Palmer will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday April 13, 2016 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford. Pastor David Clements will officiate. Cremainal Inurnment will take place in The Town of Ford Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Wednesday at Hemer Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 AM until the time of service.

From 1952-1957, she taught in several Taylor County schools including the Red Brick School in Bellinger & Fawn Valley School in Rib Lake. Moved to Minocqua in 1957 and worked as a CNA at Howard Young Medical Center until her retirement in 1988. She then joined her husband in traveling with volunteer groups of the Assembly of God Church called MAPS. They helped build schools, churches & campgrounds. She enjoyed writing letters to prison inmates and doing other ministry work.

PRINCIPLE EVENTS IN LIFE: From 1944-1945 she lived and worked in Milwaukee. From 1952-1957, she taught in several Taylor County schools including the Red Brick School in Bellinger & Fawn Valley School in Rib Lake. Moved to Minocqua in 1957 and worked as a CNA at Howard Young Medical Center until her retirement in 1988. She then joined her husband in traveling with volunteer groups of the Assembly of God Church called MAPS. They helped build schools, churches & campgrounds. She enjoyed writing letters to prison inmates and doing other ministry work.

He enjoyed camping with family, chatting and reminiscing about being in the service, spending time with his grandchildren/great grandchildren, his Thursday night Social Club, and in his earlier years, he liked to hunt and fish.

She enjoyed teaching swimming to adults, hiking and traveling.

In later years he moved to Eau Claire where he worked for REACH. He enjoyed bowling, going for walks, especially around the lake in Rib Lake, jigsaw puzzles, listening to music on his phonograph, playing games with his brother James and going shopping. Rick had a close relationship with his brothers Tom, James and Bob. He was a happy, loving guy who was always willing to help and loved to tease everyone.
