Lester E. Carlson, 91, currently of Marshfield, formerly of Medford, passed away Friday June 24, 2016 at Ministry St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Lester was born February 9, 1925 in the Township of Holway, Wisconsin to David and Ruth (Larson) Carlson. He married Laura H. Lang on August 5, 1949 in Iowa City, IA. Laura preceded Lester in death December 19, 2009.

Amy Ike of Marshfield, Audrey (John) Aviles of Stanley, NC, Betty Nickerson of Salem, OR, Bonnie (Jay) Still of Independence, MO, Carol (Ken) Schulz of Marshfield, Coralee (Jeffry) Schultz of Unity, Danette (Don) Irvin of Arlington, TX, and Deanne (Cleve) Madlock of Bolingbrook, IL, 21 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, 3 Great Great grandchildren. Lester joined the US Army in March of 1943, and served a 3 year enlistment. He was stationed in Italy, and was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, and was a Ski Instructor, and also a gun serviceman. In 1947, upon his return from the war he joined the Carpenters Union in Illinois and Wisconsin and was a member for over 65 years. In 1955, they built a house for the family in Arlington Heights, and Elgin. In 1972, the family returned to Central Wisconsin. Through the carpenters union he worked for many different contractors as a residential carpenter. He also owned a dairy farm in Unity. Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid Cubs, Brewers, and Packers fan. He was very proud of his family, especially his eight daughters.
He was a Lifelong Member of the Medford VFW Post 5729, a Colby VFW Post 2227, where he served as Post Commander for both, Chequamegon Bird Club, Taylor County Historical Society, The United Church of Christ, Medford.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday June 28, 2016 at The United Church of Christ in Medford. Pastor Mary Jo Laabs will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. Burial and military honors will follow at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II.
