LEONA R. BRINK

Leona R. Brink, 91, of Country Gardens, Medford, a former Town of Browning resident, died on Saturday, June 20 at Aspirus Medford Hospital, emergency room, where she was taken earlier that day.

The public is invited to a graveside committal service to be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 8 at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II, with Pastor Mary Jo Laabs officiating. Due to COVID concerns, there will be no luncheon following. For everyone’s concern, please wear masks and maintain social distancing.

Leona was born on May 13, 1929 in the Town of Holton, Marathon County, to Lawrence and Florence (Spurgin) Metz. She attended the Town of Deer Creek elementary school and was a 1947 graduate of Medford High School. Her marriage took place on November 13, 1948 at Community Evangelical Church in Medford to Melvin D. Brink and he preceded her in death January 13, 2018.

They farmed in the Town of Browning for many years. Then she worked at Copps IGA, Medford in the bakery and later became manager of the deli until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, polka music, fishing, trips to the casino, cards, bingo, going for rides in the country, she loved the outdoors and a good piece of pie. She was a member of the Community United Church of Christ, Medford.

Surviving are her children, Barbara (George) Tuma & Jerry (Dawn) Brink, both of Medford and Sandra Peterson of Oregon, WI, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her in-laws, Ilaine Blasel and Donald (Clarice) Brink all of Medford, and Virginia Brink of Lake Mills, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Connie in 1961 and a sister, Patricia Ukasick.

LUICELLA A. GOERG

Luicella A. Goerg, 90, Medford, died on Sunday, June 21 at Aspirus Care & Rehab where she had resided for the past 7 years.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family only graveside burial and committal service will take place at a later date at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II with Father Patrick McConnell officiating.

Luicella was born on December 4, 1929 in Medford to John and Kunda (Heier) Goerg. She attended Medford area elementary schools and was a graduate of Medford High School. After her education, she moved to Milwaukee and worked there as a typist and policy writer for a Title Insurance Company until her retirement. She moved back to Medford in 2010. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford.

She is survived by many Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lawrence (Evelyn), Delmar (Dolores) & Herbert (Rita) Goerg all of Medford.

Her family would like to give thanks to the staff at Aspirus Care & Rehab, Country Gardens and her volunteer, Kathy, for their compassionate care.

ROBERT "BOB" L. FRIEDENFELS

Robert “Bob” L. Friedenfels, age 89, of Medford, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Clark County Rehab and Living Center, where he had been a resident for the past 2 years. He was under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Holway. The family requests that attendees are respectful of social distancing while attending the service. 

Bob was born on December 2, 1930 at home in the Town of Maplehurst, Taylor County, to the late Emil and Anna (Potocnik) Friedenfels. Bob went to Redville School and helped out on the family farm.

On August 2, 1952, he married Rita Schwellenbach at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and started farming in the Town of Holway with her. That very fall, he went to serve in the army during the Korean War. After returning from the war, Bob and Rita were blessed with three children; Roxanne, Randolph, and Richard.
Bob served on the Taylor County Board of Supervisors for 12 years.

In 1978, Rita passed away. Several years later, Bob married Mary Bootz and they had 1 daughter, Elizabeth. Bob and Mary were later divorced.

Robert lived in retirement for many years on his farm in the Town of Hammel, which he had moved to in 1969.

Bob survived by his children—Roxanne (Rick Kempf) Friedenfels of Minneapolis, Randolph (Juanita Timm) Friedenfels, of Medford, Richard (Corinne Kolbe) Friedenfels, and Elizabeth (Eric Schram) Friedenfels of Merrill; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings – Rich Friedenfels of Milwaukee, Gloria (Bob) Garcia of Oregon, WI, Edward (Marge) Friedenfels of Eau Claire, Daisy Bullock of Minneapolis; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; brothers – Frank, Harry, Donald, and William; and sisters— Dolores and Dorothy.

FREDERICK "FRED" R. SCHUBERT

Frederick “Fred” R. Schubert, 71 of Chippewa Falls, a former Medford area resident, died on Friday, June 19 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, where he had been a patient for the past 4 days.

Funeral services for Fred will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, June 23 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford with Rev. Rodger Prois officiating. Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of services. Burial will take place following at Medford Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family members.

Fred was born on May 26, 1949 at Medford to Herbert and Agnes (Neubauer) Schubert. He attended Brookside Elementary School, Town of Medford and was a 1967 graduate of Medford High School. He worked on the home farm in the Town of Medford, at Weather Shield Mfg., Medford and most recently at Black River Industries, Medford. He was a huge sports fan all his life. Since 2002, he has resided at Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls, WI.

He is survived by his siblings, LaVonne (Chuck) Thillen, Richard (Janice) Schubert both of Medford and Herbert (Karen) Schubert of Rib Lake. He is further survived by a sister-in-law, Georgia Schubert of Medford, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herman Schubert.

JEFFREY "JEFF" M. BARTELT


Jeffrey “Jeff” M. Bartelt, 63, of the Township of Greenwood, passed away unexpectedly at Medford Aspirus Hospital on Thursday, June 18, 2020.

Jeff was born on January 24, 1957 to Harold and Frances (Kauss) Bartelt in Medford. He attended Rib Lake Schools. After high school he enlisted in the US Army. He served from 1975 – 1985 and was stationed in Germany from 1978 until 1984. After his service he settled in Milwaukee before returning to Medford. He worked as a cook for Medford High School and then went to work at Northern Kitchens in Rib Lake until his death.

In his spare time he enjoyed gardening. He was a member and president of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

Jeff is survived by his siblings, Terry (Barbara) Bartelt of Oak Creek, Harold (Jayne) Bartelt of Longview, Wash., Edward Bartelt of Cape Coral, Fla., Ronald (Sue) Bartelt of Muskego,  and Karen (Andy) Prado of West Allis. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents.

A public visitation for Jeff will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A private family service will be held at  a later date and burial will follow at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Jeff’s name may be given to St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church.

DONALD O. LEKIE


Donald O. Lekie, 86, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Care Partners surrounded by family under the care of Hope Hospice.

Donald was born on October 31, 1933 to Otto and Ruth (Dodge) Lekie in Beloit. He moved to Medford with his family to farm and attended Medford Schools. He returned to Beloit where he met his wife, Martha Palubinski. He enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Maryland, where he married Martha on September 15, 1955. They returned to Medford, where he worked in factories and owned a company whitewashing barns and cleaning veal barns.

In his spare time he enjoyed raising homing pigeons, fishing, hunting, trapping, golf, weekend road trips with his family, and spending time with his grandchildren and wife at Hultman Lake. He was also a boating safety instructor and 4-H woodworking leader. He also enjoyed going to Country Fest with Martha and traveling to Canterbury Racetrack to watch horse racing.

Donald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Martha, children, Ronald (Kris) Lekie of Owen, Timothy (Leeanne) Steckhan of Portland, OR, Daniel (Colleen) Lekie of Plymouth, Steven Lekie of Medford, and Kathryn (Paul) Ustianowski of Medford; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. Donald is further survived by his siblings, Richard (Bettie) Lekie of Medford, Bonnie Olson of Stetsonville, and David (Lynnette) Lekie of Las Vegas, NV and many other family and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffery; brother-in-law Jack Oleson; grandson, Travis.

A private family service will take place and a Celebration of Life will be held at BS Bar on Friday, June 19, 2020 from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM.

EMMA M. JORGENSEN

Emma M. Jorgensen, 86, of Withee, passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford.

Emma was born on May 8, 1934 to Arthur and Alice (Moore) Anderson in Stetsonville. She was a graduate of Medford High School. She married Norman Jorgensen on December 15, 1951; he preceded her in death in 2004.

Emma was a homemaker on the family in farm. She was a member of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary in Thorp. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, and gardening.


Emma is survived by her children, Stanley (Pat) Jorgensen of Medford, Joey (Karen) Jorgensen of Helena, Montana, Laurie Rohland of Withee, Lief Jorgensen of Withee, Michael (Tish) Jorgensen of Medford, Wendy Gleason of Medford, and Daniel (Barb) Jorgensen of New Baden, Illinois; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren. She is further survived by her brother, Eugene Anderson and sister, Patricia (Lloyd) Amacher and many other family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, Emma is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Lerin and sister-in-law Mae Anderson.

A Funeral Service for Emma will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15, 2020 at Hemer Funeral Home – Medford Chapel, with Pastor David Clements officiating. DAVID "SNUFFY" D. DUELLMAN

David “Snuffy” D. Duellman, 53, Medford, a former Stetsonville resident, was pronounced dead on Wednesday, June 10 at his residence in the City of Medford.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place from 2-8 PM on Monday, June 15 at the Centennial Community Center, 412 E. Centennial Ave., Stetsonville, WI. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Stetsonville Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

David was born on November 12, 1966 at Medford to Karen (Frahm) and Daniel Duellman. He went to Stetsonville Elementary Schools, was a 1985 graduate of Medford High School, attended NTC in Antigo for auto body and was certified in public works. In 2005, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville he married Trina Reiter and they were later divorced.

After his education, he served as a volunteer fire fighter for the Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years. He worked at Parrett Mfg. in Dorchester, Medford Fur Foods, public works director for the Village of Stetsonville and most recently public works director for the Village of Curtiss for periods of time. David loved being with his children, enjoyed NASCAR, the cabin in the Willow area, spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville.

David is survived by his children, Ethan & Julia Duellman of Stetsonville, his siblings, Dawn Doberstein of Medford, Doug (Teri) Duellman of Stetsonville and Dodie Haynes of Medford. He is further survived by his father, Daniel Duellman of Tripoli, WI, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother, Karen Duellman in 1990.

DAVID C. WALLACE


David C. Wallace, 84, of Rib Lake, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2020 at his home, under the care of Hope Hospice and his loving family.

A Funeral Service for David will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 13, 2020 at River of Hope Church in Medford, with Pastor Josh Kohl officiating. Burial will follow at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at River of Hope Church from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.

David was born in Burlington, Iowa to Bernard and Nellie (Higgins) Wallace on August 20, 1935. He grew up in Wapello, Iowa. He attended Wapello schools. He lived with his grandmother, Ida Mae Wallace. He served in the US Army. He married Virginia Sugden on November 4, 1961; she survives.

He worked at Zelaski Muck Farms in Lake Mills. He drove truck for over 35 years. After retirement, he delivered for Meals on Wheels and was also a campground host.

In his spare time he liked to fish, hunt, and go camping. He enjoyed family get togethers, time with his pets and wild life. He attended Rib Lake Methodist Church.

David is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Virginia. Together they had 5 children, Nicole (Frank) Buelow of Rib Lake, Neena (Clayton) Szydel of Medford, Ray (Sherry) Wallace of Racine, Rodney (Carol) of Merrill, and Michael (Libby) Wallace of Menomonie; 12 grandchildren, Crystal, Sarah, Justin, Joshua, Lacey, Ethan, Erin, David, Kat, Cassie, Melissa, and Sydnee; 16 great-grandchildren. He had 4 children from a previous marriage, Dawn of Iowa and Jody of Iowa and their children. He is further survived by sister-in-law Odessa (Harold) Gaugert, brother-in-law William Sugden, brother-in-law, David Oemig. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, granddaughter, Jennifer Wallace,  and sister-in-law, Janice Oemig.

GERALD "JERRY" L. RAMM

Gerald “Jerry” L. Ramm, age 74, of Stanley, formerly of Medford, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Ascension Our Lady of Victory Hospital.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a graveside service will be held at a later date.

Jerry was born to the late Clarence O. and Jessie L. (Porter) Ramm on July 15, 1945 in Marshfield. He attended Medford Elementary Schools. Jerry loved spending time with his caregivers, Ed and Bonnie Stewart, whether it was “supervising” Ed’s work, going for a ride in the car, or riding in the boat, all while drinking Coca-Cola. The family would like to publicly thank Ed and Bonnie for their undying love and support of Jerry.

Survivors include siblings – Jean M. Ramm, of Medford, Donald J. Ramm of Medford, Lola J. Ramm of Medford, Lucy A. Hanish of Medford, and Ray W. Ramm of Medford; sisters-in-law Marie Ramm of Medford and Becky Ramm of Wausau.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings – Alvin J. Ramm, David E. Ramm, and Joan M. Keuffer.

HELEN D. HAIZEL


Helen D. Haizel, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at her residence under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care and surrounded by her loving family.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family only burial will take place at a later date.

Helen was born on September 10, 1922 to the late Frank and Theresa Marie (Olsen) Hierlmeier in Wisconsin. She attended Larson School. On May 21, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Rudolph Haizel in Reno, Nevada. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2009. They eventually settled down in the Town of Holway, ran a dairy farm, and raised their children.

In her free time, Helen enjoyed farming, gardening, holding babies, spending time with her family, cards, specifically solitaire, cooking, and baking, both of which she was doing up until her final days.

Helen is survived by her children – Linda (Gary) Tomaszewski of Fairbanks, AK,  Vince (Bev) Haizel of West Bend, Joanne (Larry) Gowey of Lindsey, Bev (Rick) Duesing of Medford, Jim (De) Haizel and Roger (Lori) Haizel, both of Withee; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; nephew: Gordy (Mary Ann) Dietzler; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her son, Ray, on November 3, 1977, and her brother Lindy Hierlmeier.
