EDUCATION: Melvin attended Medford Area Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Medford Area High School

MARRIAGE: September 17, 1949 in Medford to Arvella L. Kraschnewski and she survives

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: After high school, Melvin joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II from 1941 until 1945 in the Pacific Theater on the Island of Tinian as a bomb loader. After his service, he worked for the Bottle Gas Company in Medford for a period of time. Melvin then worked for his father-in-law at Walter Kraschnewski Construction in Medford for a period of time while also working at Milly’s Bowling Alley. He then worked at Hurd’s Windows and Siding in Medford for 2 years before he became a well-known mink rancher. Melvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing baseball, woodworking and watching his grandchildren play sports.
