Estelle L. Berg, 91, of Ogema, passed away Monday May 8, 2017 at Country
Gardens Assisted Living in Medford, surrounded by her family and under the care
of Aspirus Hospice.
Estelle was born Feburary 17, 1926 in Ogema to M. John and
L. Pearl (Vinnedge) Cummings. She was raised on the family farm in Ogema and
went to Jump River Elementary School and was a 1944 graduate from Phillips High
School.
Estelle married Eugene R. Berg in Frederic, WI on June 15,
1944. Eugene was drafted in WWII and went to fight in Germany. Estelle worked
at the munition factory in Baraboo during the war. They celebrated their 69th
wedding anniversary on June 15, 2013. Eugene preceded her in death Sept. 2, 2013.
Estelle and Eugene stayed in Ogema, raising 4 children while
Eugene drove milk truck, worked at the Lumber Mill and eventually worked for
the Post Office in Ogema. Estelle stayed home and raised the children and was a
cook at the old Ogema School, and then the new school, and Ogema Egg Plant.
She was called the “Blanket Lady”. She made quilts and
afghans for her family, nieces, nephews and many other friends. She loved
sewing, cooking, gardening, crocheting and visiting. She was famous for her
crocheted doilies and sold many of them. She enjoyed going to the casino and
loved shopping.
Estelle is survived by two daughters: Karen (Gary) Berg of
Westberg, Pat Barr of Ogema, Daughter in Law Lois Berg of Ogema, Grandchildren:
Greg (Naomi) Barr, Angie (Glenn) Ericksen, Dawn (Fernando) Becerra, Dave (Kris)
Mabie, Barb Lutzke, Daniel (Ashley) Berg, Jason (Jenna) Berg, Great
Grandchildren: Jeff, Nick and Chase Mabie, Michaela and Elicia Ericksen, Mycal
Raleigh, and Karenna Barr, Trevor and Kyle Lutzke, and Ahnalie and Lena Berg, and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She is further preceded in death by sons: Gary and Mike
Berg. Estelle was the last of the Cummings and Berg side.
A memorial service for Estelle will be held at 11 AM
Saturday May 27, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Ogema. Rev. Dr. Bob Giese
will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Her Grandson Greg Barr will serve as Urnbearer.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Estelle can be made to Ogema Volunteer Fire Company of First Lutheran Church of Ogema.
