Lee was an avid reader, enjoyed keeping up on current events, politics and watching TV, especially Westerns.

He loved building and flying airplanes, camping, boating and snowmobiling. He enjoyed traveling, his hunting trips out west and wintered in Texas.

They then moved to Rib Lake and lived there until 2005 when she moved to Colby. Arvilla was a volunteer at Hope Hospice. She also helped others by driving them to Dr. appointments or to purchase groceries. She enjoyed knitting, embroidery and most importantly her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

GORDON R. NELSON

Gordon R. Nelson, 94 of Medford, Wisconsin died Monday, May 12, 2014 at the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home. He was born on November 15, 1919 in Little Black Township, Taylor County the son of Otto and Mathilde (nee Nelson) Nelson. On May 21, 1955 he married Delores Tylke at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford. Gordon was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army in the European Theatre. He owned and operated his own dairy farm for 51 years retiring in 1989. Gordon also worked for the Medford Co-Op Feed Mill for several years. After his retirement he worked for the National Forest Service for a number of years. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a charter member of Klossner-Dietzler Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No.5729 in Medford. Gordon was an avid reader, enjoyed a good joke and loved the outdoors.

SURVIVORS: Gordon is survived by his wife Delores Nelson, a resident of the Fond du Lac Lutheran Home, five children, Gordon R. (Jo Ann) Nelson, Buckeye, AZ, Bonnie Nelson, Romeoville, IL, Michael (Valerie) Nelson, Aurora, CO, Diane (Tom) Nielsen, Whitewater,WI, Paul (Pam) Nelson, Fond du Lac, WI and four grandchildren Thomas, William, Amy and Ryan Nelson. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Glenn, Larry, Clarence, Orville and Stanley and four sisters, Ella, Louise, Gladys and Helen.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2014 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford. After his return from the service he was a Stock Car Driver for 20 years, where Tombstone Pizza was one of his major sponsors and then was a Finishing Carpenter for Doyle and Houtari Construction for 20 years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Marlin enjoyed attending and watching races, any sporting events and working in the woods. He enjoyed animals where he had a hobby farm. Marlin enjoyed playing the trumpet, where he started in his father’s band during his 8th grade and then played in various local bands.

2nd: October 21, 1988 at Dorchester to Violet M. Gumz-Meyer and she preceded him in death March 25, 2009

PRINCIPAL EVENTS IN LIFE: In his early years, he worked for Norbert Egle as a farm hand. In 1940 he worked as a bridge builder and painter for the Soo Line Railroad. 1942-1946 he served in the US Army a veteran of WW II. After the military, he took over the family farm in the Town of Medford. In 1950 he went to work for Hurd Millwork until 1968. Then he went to work for Presto Industries in Eau Claire until 1975. From 1975 until his retirement in 1987, worked at the Weather Shield Vinal Plant in Medford. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, polka music, reading, camping & traveling.

MEMBER OF: St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford where taught Sunday school, served on the church council & building committee; Life member of the Medford VFW Club & Dorchester American Legion Club; Medford Lions Club

Then he farmed the family farm in the Town of Rib Lake and did woods work with his brother, George, until his retirement in 2000. He continued to make fire wood and reside on the farm. He enjoyed hunting, watching travel & cooking shows.
