LeRoy was born on January 11, 1933 to Anton and Margaret (Enders) Brost in Medford. He graduated from Medford High School in 1952. After graduating he drove truck for Al Ruesch and Kleist trucking. He was drafted into the Army in 1953. He completed his basic training at Camp Gordon in Savanah, GA. He then went to Camp Hanford in Seattle, WA to be a clerk typist. In 1954 he went to Tokyo, Japan to Camp Drake and served as a clerk typist in the message center. In 1955 he became a business partner with his brothers at Gelhaus & Brost Chevrolet, where he was a mechanic for 38 years until his retirement in 1993. He married Inez Budimlija on May 9, 1959, they were later divorced.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Medford VFW. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring vintage cars, attending car shows, and auto races.
Leroy is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Linda) Brost of Medford and Jack (Michelle) Brost of Eleva; grandchildren, Josie Brost, Jordan Brost, Ryan (Kelsey) Brost, and Lea (Alex) Gowey; great-grandchildren, Paisley and Max Gowey and Rhyatt Brost. Leroy is further survived by his sibling, Vernon Brost, Allen Brost, and Arlyle Mayer, and many other family and friends.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lambert “Red” Brost, Tom Brost, Rita Werner, Peg Tuma, and Marlene Dettmering.
A memorial service for Leroy will take place at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel, on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 7:00 PM, with Pastor David Clements officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Hemer Funeral Home on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM. Military Honor will be performed by the Medford VFW at 4:00 PM.
Memorial donation in Leroy’s name may be given to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.
