Fred was born on April 24, 1931 in St. Cloud, MN to Gustave
and Margaret (Brauch) Parent. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School in St.
Cloud and went to graduate from the University of Minnesota – St. Paul. He was
enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After school he worked
for the US Forestry Department for 9 years in Oregon. He moved to Medford in
1967 and continued working with the Forestry Department until his retirement in
1987. He married Mary (Trutwin) Denn on September 6, 1957 in Loveland, CO; she
preceded him in death on February 9, 1982. He later married Arlene “Archie”
Stelzel on November 16, 1985 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester; she
survives.
After retirement he spent 5 years working with the VNA. He
was elected to the Taylor County Board in 1992 on the Personnel and Finance Committee
and continued until 2012. Fred was also the Director of Group Health Trust from
1996 until 2012. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where he
ushered for over 30 years.
In his spare time he enjoyed curling, traveling, and
spending time with Ron Brink.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his children,
Fred Denn of Yorktown, VA, Debora (Jesse) Noland, of Medford, and Robert Parent
of Wausau; step-children, Pat (Grace) Tischendorf of Dorchester, Micheal
Tischendorf of Athens, and Jan Tischendorf of Medford. Fred is also survived by
7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 6
step-great-grandchildren.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary,
and sisters, Janet Suraci and Margaret “Peggy” Schrantz.
A Memorial Mass will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12,
2019 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Phil Juza officiating. Burial
will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will take place at
Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9:00 AM until
the time of service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Fred’s name may be
given to Holy rosary Catholic Church.
