VICTOR R. "SLICK" ZIRNGIBLE









Victor R. “Slick” Zirngible, 92, of Medford, passed away Friday September 28, 2018 at his home, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday October 3, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford. Rev. Steve Rutter will officiate. Burial will follow at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II, with military honors being rendered. Visitation will be held Tuesday October 2, from 4-7:00 PM at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel and also at Church Wednesday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service.

Victor was born November 18, 1925 in the Town of Little Black to Alex and Theresa (Rudolph) Zirngible. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School. He married Elsie Krueger on August 2, 1947 in Abbotsford, WI. Elsie precedes him in death.

He is survived by two sons: Craig (Jeanne) and Dale (Ruth) Zirngible all of Medford, Grandchildren: Scott, Lynn (Mike), Steve, Eric, Chip, Katy (Scott) Alex, Emily, Ray, Great Grandchildren: Ashalyn and Kason, Siblings: Alvin “Speed” Zirngibl of Phillips, Marcella “Sally” Ziemer of Shell Lake, Sister in Law Carol (Edward “Hink”) Spencer of Laona, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Victor is preceded in death by a daughter, Jill, granddaughter, Jesse, and brothers Albert, Clarence, and Eugene.

Victor served in the US Navy, and was the head cook on a transport ship. He is a Pacific War Veteran. After returning from the war, he worked for O and N Lumber in Medford. In 1959, he and Elsie started Stetsonville Lumber, which was owned and operated by him until 1987.

He enjoyed going to his cabin on Pier Lake in the Township of Lynn, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, bowling and playing cards. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and an outdoorsman. He always looked forward to and enjoyed taking trips out west to hunt, and traveling to Canada to fish.

Victor loved his family, especially all of his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Medford VFW, where he served as Post Commander from 1958-1959, Stetsonville American Legion, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he was President and councilman, Taylor County Sportsman’s Club, and the Chequamegon Spur Time Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Victor can be designated to the  American Legion Post # 147 - Veterans Memorial Flag Field. Memorial donations can be mailed to Roger Emmerich, 1054 W. Broadway Avenue, Medford, WI 54451.
