Jane Albacker Darnell, 66, city of Medford, died on Friday,
September 25 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Per her request, there will be no
services. Interment of her cremated
remains will take place in Pennsylvania.
Jane was born March 2, 1954 at Waynesburg, PA, the daughter
of Lee and Helen (Allayaud) Albacker.
She attended Pennsylvania elementary and high schools. She received her BS in Forest Science from
Penn State University. She was
previously married and later divorced.
She served her country for 41 years with the US Forest
Service, residing in Medford for the past 28 years. Early in her career as a Forest Planner, Jane
recognized the importance of making decisions that were transparent,
consistent, well-researched, and thoroughly documented. She wrote many
of the significant environmental decisions of the Chequamegon-Nicolet NF. Jane's passion for staying
ahead of changing resource policy and law also made her a beacon of knowledge
to all around her. As a mentor, she generously leant her time and talent
to other Forests throughout the Eastern US. From timber sales to recreation
facility improvements, Jane provided the intellectual organization and
leadership to manage multiple resources for the benefit of all.
Away from work, Jane’s passions were books, gardening, local
volunteer organizations, and her pets.
She was a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists About Climate
Change and a lifetime member of Penn State Alumni.
Jane is survived by her brother, Donald (Nancy) Albacker of
Warrington, PA, niece Karen (Pat) Weiss of State College, PA, nephew Lee
(Colleen) Albacker of Arlington, MA along with grand nephews, Brendan and
Nathan Albacker also of Arlington, MA. Jane
was preceded in death by her parents.
The family requests donations be made in Jane’s name to
either the MS Society, Salvation Army, or the Taylor County Humane
Society. Hemer Funeral Service of
Medford and Rib Lake is serving the family.
