ALVIN D. BLAZEL, JR.

Alvin D. Blazel, Jr., 80, of the Township of Holton, passed away on December 21, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral Services for Alvin will take place on Monday, January 4, 2021 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby at 11:00 AM, with Father Joseph Redfern officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM

Alvin was born on July 28, 1940 to Alvin, Sr. and Elizabeth (Keonigs) Blazel in Dorchester. He graduated from Dorchester High School. After schooling, he held various jobs such as mechanical repair, road construction, working for International Harvester, Michael’s Pipeline, and Gabe’s Construction. He was drafted in the Army and served in the 60’s.

Alvin is survived by his son, Eric Blazel of Dorchester; brothers, James Blazel of Medford and Dennis Blazel of Madison; sister, Louise Brill of Abbotsford and Hellen Bussee of Dorchester; nieces, Heather, Amanda, and April; nephew, Henry. Alvin is further survived by other family and friends.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Donna Brunner; son, Bruce Blazel.

JASON E. ZIRNGIBL

Jason Zirngibl, 44, of Stetsonville recently passed away at his home.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Thursday, December 31 at 1:00 PM, with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. Visitation will take place At Holy Rosary from 11:30 AM until the time of service. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jason was born Feb. 21, 1976 in Eau Claire. He grew up in Medford and attended Medford Area Public Schools.

Over the years he worked a variety of jobs, most recently as a carpenter. Jason took pride in the work that he did and was well known for his strong work ethic and his perfectionist attitude; he strove to do the best at everything he set himself to.

Jason lived life to the fullest. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman - both in the summer and winter. Whether tracking a big buck or pulling in a monster northern he was unquestionably in his element in nature.

Jason loved his son, Chandler, and enjoyed spending time with him. They spent a great deal of time outdoors and Jason took pride in passing on some of his skills, including engine repair and vehicle maintenance to him.

Jason is survived by son, Chandler Brandner; grandfather, John McMurry; parents, Joseph (Valerie Rust) Zirngibl, Kathy (Wayne Schmidt) McMurry; brother, Ryan Zirngibl. Also many half and step-siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jason was preceded in death by grandparents, Joseph and Celine Zirngibl and Eileen McMurry; brother, John Zirngibl.

A very special acknowledgement goes to Jason’s many close friends and his second family, the George and Rita Kalmon family, who loved and welcomed Jason into their lives for many years.

SHIRLEY E. KLEIST

Shirley E. Kleist, 97, a Town of Medford resident, died on Saturday, December 26 at Neillsville Care & Rehab, where she had resided for the past 3 weeks following a stroke. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 31 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Medford with Rev. Rodger Prois officiating.  Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of services at     11 AM.  Due to COVID concerns, masks will be required for the visitation and services.  Interment will take place at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. 

Shirley was born on September 5, 1923 in the Town of Browning, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Giese) Halopka.  She attended Fairfield Grade School, Town of Browning and was a 1943 graduate of Medford High School.  Her marriage took place on June 28, 1947 at Community Evangelical Reformed Church, Medford to Wellington “Shorty” H. Kleist and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1989. 

After her education, she worked in Milwaukee for a period of time.  After marriage she was active and  co-owner of W.H. Kleist Trucking, Inc..  She also worked as a rural mail carrier.  She did volunteer work at numerous organizations.  She enjoyed fishing, dancing, crafts, gardening, animals, travel, knitting, crocheting, trips to the casino, the G.B. Packers, spending time with friends and family.  She was a member of Community United Church of Christ, Medford and its Woman’s Guild, Medford VFW Auxiliary, Taylor Co. Humane Society, Taylor Co. Historical Society, Chelsea Conservation Club, Chequamegon Bird Club and the Happy Americans Club.

Surviving are her children, Cindy (Ed) Pernsteiner of Medford, Vicki (Jim) Lundeen of St. Cloud, MN, Sally Sadowska of Granton & Jay (Ginger) Kleist of Medford; grandchildren, Christopher, Chad and Clinton Pernsteiner, Sean and Andrea Lundeen, Erick and Tim Sadowska, Kelly Jochimsen & Jake Kleist; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Ann Gebauer of Rib Lake.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, Alma Fiebke, Lydia, Frank, Harry, Earl, Ray and Gene Halopka.

VERONICA J. PATTERSON

Veronica J. Patterson, 89, Medford, died on Saturday, December 26 at Our House Sr. Living, Medford where she had resided for the past 2 years.

Veronica was born on January 2, 1931 at the Town of Little Black, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Sperl) Kramar.  She attended Georgetown Elementary School, Kennan and was a graduate of Phillips High School.  Her marriage took place on July 4, 1953 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kennan to John Harold Patterson and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1960. 

She did home child care for 32 years while residing in Medford.  She enjoyed crafting, knitting mittens & caps, crocheting, and doing plastic canvas work.  She also helped in the kitchen for VFW Auxiliary functions.  She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford & the Medford VFW Auxiliary.

Surviving are her children, Kenneth (Michele) Patterson of Withee, Gail (Steven) Kuczkowski of South Carolina, Dennis (Diene) Patterson of Gilman and Betty (Roger) Ludwig of Dorchester; along with numerous grandchildren.  Also surviving are her siblings, Frieda Kempen of Kimberly, Wi and Richard (Virginia) Kramar of Phillips.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, Clarence Kramar and Florence Uravich.

RUTH E. ARNDT

Ruth E. Arndt, 92, Medford, died on Wednesday, December 23 at Abbotsford Health Care Center where she had resided for the past 6 months. 

Memorial services for Ruth will take place at a later date.  Burial will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. 

Ruth was born on April 23, 1928 at Stetsonville, WI, the daughter of Herman and Helen (Tindula) Niemuth.  She attended Stetsonville area schools and Medford High School.  She received a degree in cosmetology from the Eau Claire School of Cosmetology.  Her marriage took place on August 30, 1947 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville to Ernest F. Arndt and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2012. 

She worked most of her life as a housewife & mother, also assisting the family with their mink and ginseng ranch.  She enjoyed world travels, reading, baking and walking.  She was a charter member and past treasurer of First Baptist Church, Medford.  She was also active in the church as a Sunday school teacher and assisted with the AWANA program.  She was a past treasurer for the North Central Mink Association and the Medford Mink Club. 

Surviving are her sons, Bryan (Paula) Arndt of Medford and Brad Arndt of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren, Leslie (Tyler) Reed, Paul (April) Kim, Kyle (Amanda) Arndt, Jon Arndt, Jennifer (Darrell) Gatling, Natalie Arndt, Janelle Arndt and Michelle Dunn; great-grandchildren, Daisy, Hazel, Henry, Alex, Beau, Tatiana, Zachary, Kenya, Raya, Jaishon, Qyntynne, Michael, Mikaylee, Christopher & Grayson.  Also surviving are her siblings, Vivian (Henry) Hintges of Minnesota, Elaine Fritsche of Dorchester and Marvin Niemuth of Stetsonville; sisters-in-law, Ellen Niemuth of Eau Claire & Carol Arndt of Medford.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandchildren, Melody Arndt, Jason & Christopher Balla; siblings, Rachel Weiler, Pearl Renelt, Mabel Habermeyer, Sally Vlach, Beatrice Ludwig, Vernon & Glenn Niemuth, Melvin in infancy.

JERRY L. LARSON

Jerry L. Larson, 70, Medford, a former Townships of Holway and Little Black resident, died on Tuesday, December 22 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where he had resided for the past 3 years. 

There will be a private family only service held in the future with Pastor Amy Heinz officiating.  Burial will be at Our Saviours Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Holway with nephews serving as pallbearers. 

Jerry was born on October 24, 1950 at Medford, the son of Alvin “Tony” and Angeline (Smith) Larson.  He attended Holway elementary schools and was a 1969 graduate of Medford High School.  

After his education, he worked at Post Mfg. in Owen, Weather Shield Mfg. and Hurd Millwork in Medford.  He retired from Opportunity Development Center in Marshfield.  He enjoyed shooting pool, attending Milwaukee Brewers baseball games and visiting with friends.  Jerry was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Town of Holway. 

He is survived by his siblings, Karen Larson of Medford, Sharon (Jim) Cicha of Glen Flora, Duane (Debra) Larson of Medford, Janet (James) Sova of Medford and Lester (Tammy) Larson of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, James Bach of Dorchester, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sandra Bach.

MILDRED ALICE DeBOER HALL

Mildred Alice DeBoer Hall, 95, left this earth for her heavenly home Sunday, December 20, 2020 at her residence in the Town of Browning under the loving care of her family and Hope Hospice.

Born April 2, 1925, in Galesville, the daughter of Martin and Alice (Mulder) DeBoer, she grew up in Midway, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Lloyd DeBoer, Gertrude Paudler and Bronno DeBoer.

Mildred graduated from Union Free High School, Holmen, WI in 1942 (after skipping 3^rd grade) and in 1946 received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the Stout Institute (now University of Wisconsin-Stout). Mildred then moved to Medford where she taught home economics at Medford High School. It was during her involvement at First Baptist Church, Medford, where she met and later married Eldon Hall in 1951. He preceded her in death in 2015.

Mildred taught for several years until she left for a higher calling, raising a family. She took pride in her family. Family time was spent singing around the piano or baking in the kitchen. She passed that love onto her family. She never complained and always offered to help. Mildred also helped in various roles in Eldon’s business, Hall Distributing.

Musically talented, Mildred sang in choirs, played clarinet in band, served as organist and pianist for First Baptist Church, Medford, and was able to easily transpose music on the spot when accompanying individuals or groups. With her teaching and substitute teaching over the years, she taught several generations of students how to sew and cook. Many times, even since her death, family members have heard from various people who say that they had Mildred as a teacher or she accompanied them at musical competitions.

Mildred was also actively involved in church by teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and serving as church secretary and treasurer.

Mildred and Eldon were married for 64 years. To that union, they raised seven children Cheryl (Ron) Cathey, Susan Hall, who preceded her in death, Bill (Sandy) Hall, Sandra (Leon) Youngblood, Kurt (Barb) Hall, Cindy (Joseph) Harrison, Dan Hall, two foster children, Cindy (Mike) Gibson, Craig (Mary) Hillegas, 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and wanted everyone to know her Lord.

Our families would like to thank Laura Sova at Aspirus Medford Clinic for her excellent care in the past five years as well as the staff of Hope Hospice.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, 751 Grace Way, Medford, WI, Saturday, January 2, 9:30AM until time of the funeral service at 11:00AM with Rev. Tim Becker officiating. WARREN LEE HOFFMANN

Warren Lee Hoffmann, 75, Medford, born on December 4,1945 ,was called to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on December 19,2020. His parents were Adolf and Eleanora (Berner) Hoffmann of the City of Medford, WI and formerly of Town of Holway. 

Warren grew up in the Town the Holway on the family farm and also attended grade school in the Town of Holway. He moved to the City of Medford with his parents, after they retired from the family farm.

Warren worked at Black River Industries for many years and enjoyed his job there very much.  He had a strong Christian faith and was a lifelong member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Warren was well known to so many others to always have a smile on his face no matter what, and could light up any room with the sound of his giggles and laughter.  Warren enjoyed church, books, bingo, music, and spending a lot of time with his family ,especially his nieces and nephew who he adored.

Warren is survived by his niece Rebecca (Jamie) Dohrwardt, great niece Alexus (Dustin Kayhart) Dohrwardt, great nephew Michael (Gabby Kummer) Dohrwardt, and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents Adolf and Eleanora (Berner) Hoffmann and his sister Janet (Hoffmann) Heisler.

A service will be held for Warren on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Zion Ev. Lutheran church with Rev. Richard Russow officiating.   Visitation will be at the church from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM.  Urnbears will be Alexus and Michael Dohrwardt. Interment will be at Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery, Stetsonville.

RONALD "RONNIE" J. KLEIBER

Ronald “Ronnie” J. Kleiber, 74, Thorp, a former Medford area resident, died on Saturday, December 19 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire where he had been a patient for the past 1 week. 

There will be a graveside service for Ronnie at 10 AM on Tuesday, December 29 at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. 

Ronald was born on July 29, 1946 in the Town of Little Black, the son of Jerome and Lucille (Heinz) Kleiber.  He attended Medford area schools and worked as a offset printer at the Star News for a period of time.  He enjoyed old cars, guns and attending garage sales.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford.

Surviving are his brother, Gary (Stella) Kleiber of Kronenwetter and his sister-in-law, Susie Kleiber of Medford.  A single man, Ronnie was preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Sandra Motte in 2018, parents, and brothers, Warren & David Kleiber.

JEROME "JERRY" F. MAKOWSKI

Jerome “Jerry” F. Makowski, 82, a Township of Hammel resident, died on Sunday, December 20 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Hope Hospice.

The family would like to do a celebration of life gathering for Jerry at a later date. 

He was born of February 5, 1938 at Chicago, IL, the son of Thadius and Frances (Nozicka) Makowski.  He attended Cicero, IL elementary schools and was a graduate of Fenwick High School, Chicago.  His marriage to Audrey J. Green took place on April 13, 2008 at Nevada.

After his education, he entered the US Air Force and was stationed in Germany.  After the service, he returned to Chicago to run the family business, Real Sausage Company until his retirement in 2002.  He then moved to the Township of Hammel.  In retirement he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, remodeling, wood working and making radio controlled airplanes.  He was a member of the Highland Flyers. 

Surviving are his wife, Audrey J. Green of the Town of Hammel; children, Nicole (Chris) Durbin of Chicago and Danielle Makowski of Denver, CO; step-children, Laura (Bruce) Ward of Mackinaw, IL and Gary (Ellen) Green of Florida.  He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; along with his sister, Eileen Witsman of Chicago.  Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter, Patty Makowski, step-son, James Green, and a brother, Louis Makowski.

ELEANOR D. HOWARTH

Eleanor D. Howarth, 90, of Medford, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Aspirus Care and Rehab.

Cremation rites have been accorded and no services will be held.

Eleanor was born on August 2, 1930 to Henry and Isabell (Geiger) Kauer in Dorchester. She attended grade school in Dorchester. After schooling worked in Medford, until she bought and operated Eleanor’s Steak House. She ran the restaurant for 5 years before she met and married Phil Howarth. Together they ran Phil & Eleanor’s Steak House for 53 years, until Phil’s passing in 2008.

Eleanor enjoyed spending time with her children and taking trips with them, going camping and site seeing. She also enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She loved making people happy. She deeply loved life, was an amazing Chef and knew how to bring the most memorable dining experience to each guest who she had the honor to serve.  When you were dining in her Steakhouse, your table was yours for the night!  Mom wouldn’t accept anything but the best of herself.  She is sending her Heart-felt Gratitude to each and every one of us from Heaven above.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Donna (David) Gorichs of Medford and Donald Howarth of Denver, CO; sisters, Marcella Cypher of Sun Prairie and Marilyn Cypher of Stetsonville.

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Phil, and son, Darryl Howarth.

MARLENE R. HINKE

Marlene R. Hinke, 86, of Medford, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Aspirus Hospital in Medford.

Cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held at a later date.

Marlene was born on October 26, 1934 to Peter and Goldie (Lapp) Schumacher in Dorchester on the family farm. She attended Liberty School and Dorchester High School. She married Bryce A. Hinke on April 24, 1951 at the Dorchester Catholic Church. Together they farmed for 28 years in Dorchester. They sold the farm and moved to Little Black in 1976. She also worked at the Centennial Hall for 7 years and County Market for 8 years. For most of her life she worked as a housewife and mother.

She was a great herdswoman. She enjoyed flowers, playing cards, hunting, picking berries, and could out fish anyone.

She will be remembered for countless baked good and meals made for family and friends.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Bryce; son, Ken (Cyndy Meyer) Hinke of Medford; grandsons, Randy (Ginny), Mike (Margo), and Matt Hinke; 3 great-grandchildren, Ava, Hunter, and Dallas Hinke, 2 step-grandsons, Kaden and Aniken Maschusak. Marlene is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Marlene is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judy Jahnke; 2 brothers, Bob and Melvin Schumacher; 3 sisters, Aggie Zirngible, Verna Webber, and Cecilia Johnson.

JEREMY EDWARD PARENT

Jeremy Edward Parent of Medford, WI, died December 12, 2020. He was 30 years old. He was born April 11, 1990 in Bishop, California. He is survived by his daughter, Julia; his mother and father, 5 sisters, 4 brothers, and his paternal grandparents. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents. Following cremation, private services will be held in Oklahoma at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks gifts to any charity be made in his name.

Shirley H. Lindahl, 94, a Medford resident died on Sunday, December 13 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford where she had resided for the past 11 years.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 11 AM on Monday, December 21 at Zion Ev. Shirley was born on January 15, 1926 in Goodrich, the daughter of Paul W. and Victoria (Slais) Kleist, Sr..  She attended Goodrich elementary schools and was a 1943 graduate of Medford High School.  Her marriage took place on October 19, 1946 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville to Walter “Butch” Lindahl and he preceded her in death May 22, 2016.

After her education, she worked in Chicago until her marriage.  Then they resided in Stetsonville, in 1949 moved to the Town of Little Black and in 1957 purchased an 80 acre hobby farm in the Town of Medford.  She worked most of her life as a housewife and mother.  She enjoyed gardening, fishing, their cabin on Conner’s Lake and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Stetsonville and its Ladies Aid, charter member of the Medford VFW Auxiliary and past member of the Taylor County Extension Homemakers Club.

Surviving Shirley are her son, Steven (Gloria) Lindahl of Medford, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and her son-in-law, Dale Schroeder of Stevens Point.  She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, children, Lloyd in 2013 and Beverly Schroeder in 2018, daughter-in-law, Gail Lindahl in 2012, siblings, Wellington “Shorty” Kleist, Paul “Red” Kleist and Mary Lou Pernsteiner.

RONALD "RON" R. WEGERER

Ronald “Ron” R. Wegerer, 75, Medford, a Township of Browning resident, died on Wednesday, December 9 at Clark County Rehab Center, Owen where he had resided for the past 1 day.

There will be no services for Ronald at this time, however, the family is planning a celebration of life gathering in the future.

Ron was born on November 14, 1945 at Stetsonville, the son of Arthur Louis and Hazel Anna (Brunner) Wegerer.  He attended elementary schools in Milwaukee and was a 1963 graduate of Medford High School.  His marriage to Judy K. Schupp took place on October 17, 1964 at Medford.

After his education, Ron entered the US Air Force where he served for 20 years in North & South Dakota, and the Vietnam War.  He was a helicopter maintenance man for rescue helicopters & later cross trained into a missile career field.  After the service, in 1985, he returned to Medford and worked at Weather Shield Mfg. and drove truck for the US Postal Service for periods of time until his retirement in 2007.  He enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, shooting darts, and wrenching on old cars.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Wegerer of Medford; sons, Rick (Kim Bunkelman) Wegerer and Victor Wegerer both of Medford; a grandson Arik Wegerer also of Medford; his siblings, Darla (William) Moquin of Ellsworth, WI and Terry (Elaine) Wegerer of Leesburg, TX.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Wegerer on December 3, 2020; his siblings, Sherry Mueller and Arthur Lee Wegerer.

SANDRA "SANDY" L. LOUCKS

Sandy passed away on December 8, 2020, taking away the light she brought to every room.  She was born in Merrill, on December 19, 1969, and brought joy and happiness to her family and friends ever since.  Sandy enjoyed holidays, decorating her surroundings, and bringing joy in all of the seasons to everyone she knew.

Sandy grew up in Merrill with love from her mom Judy, her father Wayne, and her sister Julie.  She graduated from Merrill High School in 1989, where she began working at Semco Windows. In 1995, Sandy welcomed her first bundle of joy, Eric.  From then on, she was dedicated to family. While mastering window making, she met someone that would change her life forever, Mike Loucks.  

Mike and Sandy worked together, walked together, ate together, and loved together.  They hunted, they fished, they motorcycled, they joked, and loved each other.  When baby AJ arrived, Sandy and Mike decided that they should lock each other in, legally. Following their marriage, Sandy was up for every opportunity to expand their family with the love they could share.

In 2002 Sandy and Mike joined each other in marriage with all of their hearts and souls.  

Sandy spent 20 years mastering window making between Semco and Weather Shield. She furthered her career at Nestle in 2008, while focusing on making all of the lives around her better.  In 2018, Sandy and Mike settled into their new home in Holway, WI, immediately becoming an integral part of local society. 

Sandy enjoyed her time bird watching, camping, traveling and flower gardening.  When 2020 arrived, Sandy began working at Walmart in Medford, gathering new friends and family. She enjoyed life as Andrew finished off his high school career and Eric settled into his own life’s journey. As the year progressed, Sandy fought as her body betrayed her. She fought, and her will was strong, but she lost her battle. 

She is survived by her husband Mike, grand-mother Lois Jaeger, mother Judy Kleinschmidt, sister Julie (Corey) Maschke, sons Eric and Andrew, father and mother-in-law Mike and Audrey Berger, many other relatives.  Sandy was met at the gates by her grandfather Butch, her father Wayne, her father-in-law Welly, and her brother-in-law Doug.  Sandy will be greatly missed, by all of her family and friends.

Funeral services for Sandra will take place at 4:00 PM on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel. Visitation will take place at Hemer Funeral Home on Friday, December 11, 2020 from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 4:00 PM.

VIRGINIA M. GEHRT

Virginia Gehrt, 89, Rib Lake, died on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the Rib Lake Health Services where she had resided for the past 7 years. Private graveside services will be held at the Neillsville City Cemetery, WI, on Thursday, December 10^th.  Rev. Jacoba Koppert of the United Church of Christ, Neillsville, will officiate.

Virginia Mae Wehrman was born on Aug. 12, 1931, Warner Twp, Clark County, Wisconsin. to Otto and Elizabeth (Zell) Wehrman.  When Virginia was 3 years of age her mother died, and along with her sister Gladys, were raised by aunts, Caroline and Bertha Volk. She graduated from Greenwood High School in May 1949.  After graduation she worked as customer accounts clerk at the Farmer’s Store in Greenwood.

On May 15, 1954 she was united in marriage to Gordon Louis Gehrt at Zion UCC, Greenwood, Wisconsin.  After marriage they lived in Milwaukee for a brief time.  In November 1958 they moved to Rib Lake where they owned and operated Gehrt’s Tavern. Gordon preceded her in death on September 26, 1988.

Known as “Virgie” to family and friends, she loved to play cards.  There were weekly games played with friends, Mary, Betty, Donna, Darlene, Dorothy and Ben, and Larry.  She would not leave the game until her pile of quarters was the largest on the table.  A sense of humor, looking at old family pictures, and writing letters to family and friends were constant’s in her life.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rib Lake, and past member of the Taylor County Tavern League.

Survivors include one sister, Gladys (Wehrman) Tatalovich, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Mary, Ida and Marian; brothers, Henry, Alvin, Albert, Leo and Arno.

PATRICIA "PAT" E. SWENSON

Patricia “Pat” E. Swenson, 85, of Brantwood, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Rib Lake Health Services.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Pat was born on May 2, 1935 to Rhinholt and Ethel (Crowell) Marheine in Spirit. She attended Rib Lake schools and graduated from Rib Lake High School. She married William “Bill” Swenson on September 12, 1953 at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Spirit; he precedes her in death. Pat worked at Harley-Davidson in Tomahawk for 32 years until her retirement in 1998.

In her retirement Pat enjoyed woodworking, watching birds and wildlife in her yard, knitting and crocheting numerous afghans for American Legion and church raffles, traveling, and donating many gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

Pat was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Brantwood.

Pat is survived by her children, Brad (Lori) of Prentice, Aimee (John) Hein of Rib Lake, Renee (Mark) Paris of Wausau, Todd (Diane) of Sheboygan Falls, and Hal (Dawn) of Rib Lake; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Pat is preceded in death by her sisters, Audrey and Violet, and brother, Arliegh.

DANNYE "DAN" R. BOXX

Dannye “Dan” R. Boxx, 68, of Medford, died on Sunday, December 6 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, following his battle with cancer.

Dan was born on May 30, 1952 in Baldwyn, Mississippi, the son of Charles A. and Geraldine (McKay) Boxx.  Shortly after Dan’s birth his family relocated to Kenosha, Wisconsin.   He attended Kenosha public schools and was a 1970 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha.  In 1975, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Health from UW-Oshkosh; shortly after graduation he moved to Medford where he taught physical education and health at Medford Area Public Schools and also coached various high school sports.

Dan chose to further his education and received a Master’s degree in School Administration from UW-Superior. He accepted a position with the Rib Lake School District where he was the Elementary/Middle School Principal from 1981-1997.  Dan continued to advance his career in education, earning a Specialist Degree in Administration/School Superintendency from UW-Superior.   He then went on to spend a combined 20 years as District Administrator in the Rib Lake and Almond Bancroft School Districts.  Dan was proud to dedicate and serve 42 years in public education, serving the families of his school districts.

On June 12, 1990 Dan married Neva Mae Peterson in Las Vegas, NV. They proudly celebrated 30 years of marriage this past June.

Dan treasured time spent with his children, grandchildren and their families. Dan especially enjoyed being in his woodworking shop creating gifts and working on projects with the grandchildren.

Everyone who knew Dan was aware of his love for golf. In 1996, Dan and Neva built their home on the Black River Golf Course, allowing Dan to play golf almost every day.  Over his life he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with “the boys” (his golfing buddies). Dan would like to remind them that he parred his last hole.

He attended First Baptist Church of Medford, and was a member of the Medford Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Neva Boxx of Medford; children, Joshua (Heidi) Boxx and Zachary (Taylor) Boxx, both of Eau Claire, WI. Kurt (Emily) Peterson of Mound, MN and Lisa (Nick) Baumann of Jefferson, WI.  Also surviving are his grandchildren, Charlie and Henry Boxx, Lincoln Boxx, Sophia & Colton Peterson, Blake Baumann, and a brother, Donald “Dwayne” (Julie) Boxx of Kenosha.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jacob Boxx, and sister Donna Kaye Giles.

Dan and his family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Harish G. Ahuja and the entire Oncology team at Medford Aspirus. We deeply valued the compassionate care and friendships that developed during his cancer journey.

Memorial services for Dan will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, December 19 at First Baptist Church, Medford with Pastor Kim Swenson officiating.  Visitation will be at the church from 10 am until 12 noon that day.  Due to COVID concerns, masks will be required at the church for both visitation and services.

NORMAN "NORM" C. DASSOW

Norman “”Norm” C. Dassow, 75, Medford, died on Tuesday, December 1 at Rib Lake Health Services, Rib Lake where he had resided for the past 2 years.

Private family only services will be held in the future at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford with Father Patrick McConnell officiating.  Military rites will be performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. 

Norm was born on July 1, 1945 at Medford, the son of Elmer and Lorain (Olson) Dassow.  He attended the Town of Greenwood elementary school and was a 1963 graduate of Rib Lake High School.  His marriage took place on May 9, 1970 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford to Judy A. Frey.

After his education, Norm was a US Navy veteran having served from 1963-1966.  After the military, he returned to the Medford area and worked for Steel Structures Construction.  Then he worked as a police officer for the City of Medford and later the Taylor County Sherriff’s Dept. as an investigator until 2000.  In retirement he operated Norm’s Pruning Service until ill health.  He enjoyed playing cribbage, attending Brewers and Packers games, trips to Florida, coffee clutch at Rockey’s, ice cream at Moosies, and spending time with his family.  He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford.

Surviving are his wife, Judy of Medford; daughters, Gina (Josh) Thorson and Katie (Billy Mundt) Dassow both of Medford; grandchildren, Brynn, Blake & Ty Thorson, Will Mundt; and his sister, Ruth Dassow of Colby.  He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Hart.
